TAB Thread.

He also throws in a lot of Pentatonic Minor and Diminished, especially in the newer albums. Also, Major and minor scales at times.

He threw a lot of chromatic stuff in on the new album as well.

The entire solo for Hellhounds on my Trail is basically a tapped chromatic run.

But yea, what everyone else says too. Minor Pentatonic, especially on Blooddrunk and AYDY. A lot of the older stuff is major and minor scales.

I think my favorite technique that I really learned from playing a lot of CoB are the pedal type licks that he does. It has really helped me get my alternate picking down.

Thing is guys, it's not WHAT scales you use, it's HOW you use them. Anyone can use the minor and pentatonic scales but if used in two different ways will sound completely different.

The trick is:

Barre the 11th fret with your 1st finger, fret the 13th fret on the G string with your 3rd finger.

The hammer on from 11 to 14 is done by hammering on with your 4th finger.
The hammer on from 11 to 13 is done by hammering on with your 2nd finger.

That pattern repeats for each position shift...so your 2nd & 4th fingers are the only ones moving, and 1st & 3rd stay fretted the whole time.

Just watch this video:

You can clearly see how Alexi plays it.

Btw. Alexi sometimes got a weird technique. I've watched a couple of TMR cover on youtube and nearly all - including me - are using the 3rd finger for hammer on AND fretting. So 3 and 4 are moving and 1 and 3 are fretting. I find it much easier this way. I've noticed it in other videos too where he's using his 2nd finger while I use or would use the 3rd finger instead

Ah.....thanks for the "walk through" for that. HAHA

Hopefully I can now get this damn song learned all the way through. Then its on to Lobodomy.

Yeah I know that, that's why I want to know exactly what the scale is so I can mess around with phrasing. I've been playing guitar a long time so I know whats up with that in regards to technique/basic theory but occasionally I'll hit a bum note that really throws it off because I'm going completely by acquired feel instead of knowing where the scale is. Thanks for the tips in this thread, it'd be cool if there were a way to get the exact scales in guitar pro or something (the scale finder is a bit confusing and odd) but I'll figure it out.

Wow this is like a nightmare... I come here convinced I'm going to find good tabs and they're all gone. This thread has been my reference for as long as I can remember. What has happened here is really sad.

I have to agree, I think it's an absolute fucking shame that this one argument has resulted in this, it's unnecessary. I'm fairly sure I have all the tabs I need from here already, but it's just depressing that the hard work of everyone who tabbed out shit (some of whom were not involved in this at all) has gone to waste.

I think I got them all but they're in a weird mixed up order. Still better than nothing though considering I just wanted to learn a few licks; thanks to everyone who contributed!

Thanks for the tips but this seems like the scale he uses most and what I've based a couple of my solos around (the first real solo section in my band's song "Derealization" uses an ascending phrasing of this kinda thing
D:-----------------------------------------17-19-20----------19-20-22-22b24-|
A:---------------------------------17-19-20----------19-20-22---------------|
F:-------------------------16-17-19-----------------------------------------|
G:-----------------16-17-19-------------------------------------------------|
C:---------15-17-19---------------------------------------------------------|
D:-15-17-19-----------------------------------------------------------------|

That would be the D minor scale.
