TAB Thread.

yeah that is the reason I am asking here. his hair seems to move naturally, but the crappy video quality and such make me suspecious.
the first sweep he does is absolutely insane I cannot get it up to speed especially since the 2nd sweep is kinda Barrred with left index finger so your muting has to be EXACT.

I am looking for ways to do this differently but just transposing notes along the fretboard hasnt gotten my very far yet.
(lack of musical education showing haha)
Do you have a timestamp to this part?

Edit: found it. So I get the first two sweeps clean at full speed, but then fail again every time on the third. Somehow I always mess up there

Same issue here, going from the 12th fret sweep to the 8th goes smooth, but then on speed going back to the 12th is where i fall apart in speed and accuracy.

Patched someone else's tab for Deadnight Warrior
  • intro solo is now exactly how Alexi played it (2 versions, he used both)
  • also added a second version of the intro riff Alexander used on some live shows

Hey!

Could someone please correct this tab? (Rename it to .gp4 as UM doesn't allow any other file type than gp5 somehow...)

About 10 years late on this forum but I present the first Hatebreeder tab book.

When Alexi passed away I thought it would be a good idea to buy anything Alexi related for future preservation like guitar magazines. I came across the Spinefarm Karaoke DVD which has isolated tracks for Warheart, Towards Dead End and Children of Bodom. I tabbed most of Bodom when I was a teenager but with the experience I have now and all the available high quality live videos I thought I'd put together a few single guitar tab books for my personal use. It's a bit rushed since I put it together in a weekend. Using the tabs here as a basis I put my own corrections over them referencing live videos where possible and using the Spinefarm karaoke tracks. I'm pretty happy how it turned out and will start on FTR or HCDR when I get time.

Not wanting to step on anyones toes but I have the firm belief it takes two people to make a tab. If there is interest I'll upload some of the corrected tabs here when I get time. Warheart, Hatebreeder and Children of Bodom are the songs on the net with the most errors but I noticed a number of parts in Silent Night Bodom Night that have never been tabbed correctly. Some parts on the album are very hard to decipher from the mixing so there is a bit of guesswork in places.

When looking at new videos its clear that Alexi relearned a lot of the older songs since he's playing them incorrectly and in different places on the neck to what the did in earlier live videos. Whats interesting is I noticed he used some of the tabs on Ultimate Guitar to relearn some of his own songs and not even the more accurate tabs.

Another thing I noticed is Janne gets some of the harmonies and even melodies wrong. In Black Widow he plays a few patterns that stick out in the mix but when you listen closely you can hear what Alexi actually intended.

For so little editing done on this album, Alexi was an incredibly tight player in his youth. I wish there was studio videos from back then so we could see Alexi in his prime shredding those solos. How he and the rest of the Bodom lads wrote Hatebreeder at the age of 19/20 is mind-blowing.

I've been studying videos of Warheart to fix up the tab that's here on the forum, I would love to compare notes with what you've got once I'm finished! To add to your original post, I will also say that I think Alexi did like to change up little parts live over the years to keep himself on his toes. Biggest example that comes to mind is the "pre-chorus" riff in Deadnight Warrior where they are playing that Am-F-G progression. You can see him doing various chord shapes that are outlining the same progression each time, but he changes it based on the videos I've seen in Seoul 2001, Tokyo 1999, and Tavastia 2004. Wouldn't be surprised if he forgot some of the older SW/HB stuff over the years, especially the deep cuts.

Would someone out there please be awesome and re upload the tabs if possible in anyway? I would really really love it. I play myself and really into this stuff.

I'm very curious to see your tabs, most COB songs I love playing are from Hatebreeder. I'm pretty positive it should be 344 324 344 in the 4th bar of Children Of Bodom instead of 344 244 344 tho :D

Correct and good ear! Not sure how I missed that when you can see it in the Seoul live video. If I ever did a commercial tab book for a band I’d have to get a bunch of people to look over it for any errors.

Please, try and put them up again Nacrol, or upload to a google drive or something.
I need to start woodshedding, and what better way than starting with the first COB album i heard :)

Hey, sorry for the late reply and lack of tabs. I've been super busy. Looking over the tab book there is still a lot to correct and the program I used to export the tabs, Soundslice, has a major bug that blurs parts of the tab which I'm waiting for them to fix. I'm going to make some tutorial videos with on screen tabs along with guitar pro files.

Oh yeah! You're the man! Will be looking forward to them :)

Hey there! Does anyone have Rock House method backing tracks from back in the day? Can't find those anywhere on the internet.

EDIT: OOps, looked at Arcane's signature - thanks a ton for saving these!

Any1 have tab for the way alexi plays the melody at the beginning of hate me? Once he goes up to the higher frets and it varies a bit from the keyboard. For some reason can’t get that right

I’ve noticed Alexi has a unique way of harmonizing guitar parts. The intervals he harmonizes with jumps all over the place

For example blooddrunk

When they start to harmonize (1:25 mark) it seems to be minor 3rd > perfect fifth > perfect fourth > perfect fourth

does anyone have any insight on this? From a theory standpoint or just how we can harmonize like this in our own riffs. It is much more interesting to listen to.

Definitely would love someone to dive deeper into this topic. Alexi briefly talks about it in the 2nd sets of Rockhouse DVD's when he's showing the Follow The Reaper chorus riff, but he never really explains his thought process behind how he chooses what intervals to harmonize with.

I remember a few vids where people praised Alexi's ability to come up with cool harmonies practically on the fly
