Technical vs Progressive Metal

This was the EP I had. I honestly thought they had some black metal influence in there when I was younger.

Dude that first Faceless album is fucking insane for a deathcore album. Their third album is still my fav tho

first Faceless was still a tech-death album, but definitely had some deathcore in there.

Planetary Duality and Autotheism are my favorites from them. Their last album had a few monster track too. A true progressive technical death metal band. Their sound is all over the place now ...

Deformity for me are the quintessential deathcore band, though most fans of the genre would probably disagree, but they're one of the few bands that actually sound like death metal mixed with hardcore punk. No surprise they were doing deathcore in the 90's before the genre started to sound more and more like just straight up brutal/tech death.

I think I remember you posting this ages ago and I went in expecting to hate it but ended up liking it quite a lot.

99% of deathcore blows chunks, a good deal more of slam is good though and the cream of the crop is especially fucking amazing.

Slam is hilarious to me. It’s especially fun live and you can see that a lot of the bands playing it are passionate about what they do.

I just don’t see myself taking it seriously the way I do old school death metal and listening to it on my own time. I have a lot of friends who listen to slam and I definitely get it. Just not for me, I guess.

I think like with most niche subgenres once you get beneath the top layer of good bands it can get very very bad lmao. People into the whole slam scene or whatever? Yeah I could never be that guy, it has a very low quality control.

That said, there's no denying that Cemetery Rapist is high art death metal.

I almost got to meet Clay on Friday but he canceled at the last minute. Seems like a cool dude to kick it with.

the first Faceless album also has some deathcore elements in it. Been a while since i've spun that one too.
I actually liked the first two Faceless albums a fair bit back in the day, but I gave them a revisit recently & found myself not enjoying it as much.
