A little bird told me the advance copy may be floating 'round the net right about now, for those of you still too depressed about the crappy elections :) (and that's the 14 songs for the slow people...)

Seriously, I can't wait to buy the record more than ever(though I still don't know which version I'll buy as of yet)... I'm listening to it and it sounds very very good... I kinda wish I had waited to hear it, but I couldn't resist the temptation, so if you don't wanna be spoiled, don't even look for it, we're a couple of weeks from official release anyways...

BTW: Deathrider OWNS!!! and John OWNS all of these songs!!!

Just wanted to comment a bit on the songs, Don't read if you don't wanna be spoiled:

Deathrider: The change is pretty neat, although I think some people will love it, and some will hate it. Personnally I think it's great because it makes the song sound fresher and it complimets John's vocals as well. The solos are pretty cool and so are the drums. It's gonna make a great video.

Metal Thrashing Mad: John shines with his vocals in this one. The backing vocals work very nicely here, and it's an over-all updated version of this classic. The combination of Rob's solo and Charlie's double pedal is crushing!!!

Caught in a Mosh: Well, It's basically the same as in MOMD. Note that this version is a bit slower than the original song, but for this one, it works.

A.I.R: One of the best updates. They should play this one live more frequently because it sheds! John's vox is great in this one too, and there some minor changes in the drum lines, all for the best of course.

Among the living: Finally we get to understand the lyrics!!! Actually John owns this one and I like the fact that there are no whinny vocals in this version. The song is a bit slower, and the guitars sound down-tuned. Good song all in all.

Keep it in the Family: Another good update. I would have liked this one to be quicker thoguh.

Indians: Again, pretty much the MOMD version. The drum changes are a welcome addition, nothing major, just some different and better fill-ins. Again, slower then the original, but it works as well.

Madhouse: The new intro riffs are pretty neat, though we lost the squeaky guitars at the begining. The bass is too good in this one (and the others too, Frankie did aces in this album). John does pretty well, considering that this was perhaps the song with Joey's best vocals.

Panic: One word: Fast motha fuckah... okay that was three words... Another of the best updates as well... All of them are great on this one, and kuddos for keeping up with the speed... they still got it, no doubt. I love the bass sound on this song. Great double solo form Scott and Rob.

I Am the Law: Again, same as in MOMD, meaning that it's slower than the original, but not that much... Slight modification on the drums - better fill-ins and more double pedal.

Belly of the Beast: As in MOMD, the intro is "Dethroned Emperor"'s first riffs and it transforms into BOTB. Great play between John's vocals and Frank's backing vox.

N.F.L.: Slower intro, but better drums, with more of Charlie's super cool double pedals :). Guitars sound down-tuned as well, so it mey sound a bit strange at first. John gives a very good performance in this one, one of the best of the album. Better drums over all (Charlie goes nuts towards the end), and new middle section part along with a brand new solo... it works well. And the best part, at the end the song melts into the "Time" intro riffs... It sounds soooo fuckin' great!!!

Be All, End All: Great song, but alas I wish it had been just a tiny bit faster. Still it's a great update and once again John rules in the vox dept. Frankie does pretty well on bass and his backing vox too (I specially love the "rrrright" at the begining). Pretty much the MOMD version too.

Gung-Ho: Another Fast mutha!!! This one is great; break-neck pace and John spews hatred from his throat. Excellent up-date. You're gonna want to go out and kill someone upon hearing this :)

Over all, this albums is just FUCKING GREAT. The sound is cool, and although I personnally would have liked this to have a full-studio album production, the grittier 'live-ish" sound gives this album it's own personnality. 9/10 (because it's missing 4 songs - Fuck European and Japanese imports)

Great little review - cheers.

One question - does Rob C. play any of Spitz's solos close to the original???

I think on MOMD he does on a few songs like Room For One More and Only (there may be a couple more??), but most are totally reworked.

Yeah, some of Rob's solo sound like Sptiz', I am thinking of Among the Living, but I'm sure there are others... But some have definetly changed.

And as for speed, yeah, some songs are slower, but it's not much, the difference in tempo is barely noticeable. If you like the speed of the songs in MOMD you'll like this.

I just heard Metal Thrashing Mad, Gung-Ho and Panic, thanx to Jackfromczech. It´s real killer! Panic is hands down the best from these three. And I don´t think it´s slower. It´s faster! John´s vocals are really amazing. And not to mention the characteristic bass guitar sound, which...oh, you know...

they played songs a lot slower than on the records when i saw them live last time. i asked charlie why they did this, after the gig. but i can;t remember what his answer was.

They can all definatly still play as fast as they used to. They didn't, because honestly sometimes slower tempos sound a lot heavier when you have a huge guitar tone (like they originally didn't, and they do now).

Yeah, and don't panic, When I say slower, I am talking about just a bit slower... Be All End All is the slowest, and if you've heard MOMD, you'll know what it sounds like.

As for they not being able to play as when they were 20... wait and listen to Panic and Gong-Ho... You'll see how they're pretty capable of achieving top speed with no problems...

I think that thay slowed a bit the tempo because they wanted to and it's not so bad, as someone above said, it sounds better with heavier tones, and some songs have even down tuned gutars, so... there you go. But fear not, the album's great.

Really? That's one of my favourite songs. Hopefully even more so with John on vocals. You can't beat those opening riffs and the tempo changes in the verses! Great lyrics too.

since we are talkin about downtuning and slower,I get visions and nightmares that all the songs will sound like " Keep it in the family ", fuckin hate that song!!
No, no ir ain't that bad... Actually, that's my least favorite in the album as well... and that is because I think it's one of the most boring Anthrax songs ever... but that's personal taste; they should have gone with Blood or Time instead of this one...

One thing I don't like about the album is that there ain't enough songs from SOE. I know one of the bonus is from SOE, but There are something like 5 songs from ATL, and just one from SOE... Well, at least all the songs rock!

i have heard the first 5 songs, the only possible glitch and i am being really picky is its very very polished,it does not really have a raw live feel to it.
