Well I just thought I'd come on here and voice my appreciation for how much of an influence Opeth and especially Mikael have had on me in regards to music in general. I only heard of Opeth about a year or so ago and since then, my musical tastes have broadened drastically and its mainly because of Opeth. Before them, I was mainly listening to more mainstream stuff(but good music none the less) like metallica, Tool pantera etc. From listening to Opeth and getting into them and comming on these forums, I have come to Like bands such as Porcupine Tree, Bathory, Nevermore, and especially Camel (most of which I would never heard of if it wasn't for Mike and you guys letting me know about them). A few of these like Camel & Bathory, I checked out just on the strengh of Mike's praises for them so thanks Mike for taking the time out and chatting with us on here, I hope you have a chance to read this...

So basically cheers and Thanks guys guys :headbang: :worship:

Rob

also, just on a side note while we are on the subject, If anyone has anymore new music that they think I'll like, Recommend it please!!!

Good post benighted, many people here including myself have been exposed to a whole other side of music (or at least an appreciation of) simply by stumbling upon Opeth...

I know its been said many times and in more eloquent words, but thanks guys!

As for other great music, if you havent checked them out already, I cant praise Emperor enough. Absolutely phenomenal stuff.

I will join my voice in the chorus of thanks to Mike. I have discovered so much great music because of Opeth. Comus, Camel, Porc Tree, Nick Drake, etc., etc. the list goes on.

Ass kissers forum I take it. But yeah, Opeth got me into porcupine tree. I can't say that they got me into the death metal though, still hate that shit.

I checked out death, they were ok had some cool riff's. Morbid angel, where the slime lives is kinda meh, and rapture? (a vid with some dude in a net) is repetative and shit. Death metal is over-rated

so is pink floyd, which you can never seem to shut up about. :p

i love floyd, and a handful of death metal bands....but essentially everything is "overrated"

Its a better argument that death metal sucks, which i can use if you would like. But to many people on this forum go on about death metal like its the only metal genre, therefore its over-rated (bloodbath in particular) in this forum.

what exactly makes something overrated. there are plenty of people who've never heard of Death and if they picked one of their albums up at a used record store and loved it, they'd consider them underrated because they never heard of them. fact is: anything can be underrated/overrated, so that's a failure argument

I agree. It's all relative.

theyre alright, but not mindblowing. the latest album was very good though

resurrection > bloodbath

Coming back to the beginning of this thread, I'd like to thank not only Mike but also NineFeetUnderground. Many bands I've checked after his recommendations and I happen to like almost all of them. So, cheers, guy!
