"THAT" black metal vocal reverb

Hi everybody!

I'm mixing a band right now which is rather doom and post then black metal but they would like to have that black metal vocal reverb. As i'm not a big fan of the bm-vocal-reverb style i'm having a little trouble to find the right reverb.

as i rather think reverbs should be smooth and not to obvious i send a mix and one of a little few changes was "more reverb on vocals!!!!"

honestly i hate that bm-vocal reverb.

how are you guys handle that and what is the best possible way to create the best possible bm-vocal reverb?

You should try a plate reverb.
Try stuff you'd also use on drums f.e.
Or just search some preset with "cold" in it

Yeah I'm rather stupid but I never understood reverb. What's actually the difference of plate/spring for example? How do I know what reverb to use for drums, vocals... so on.

been in a situation like that some time ago...try compressing the reverb, not to long decay. if they keep asking for more reverb but you think is to much, give the reverb more higs so its more noticeable. 2cents.
