The Anti-Canada Thread

Man, saying that Canadians and Americans are the same thing, is like saying the Englsih and the French are the same. Its just not the truth. I have strong socialist beliefs and I hate being tied in with that uber capitalist regime.

theoretically any american can be socialist too.

yes but were not talking about a minority of american people, usually we talk about the government, and when I said capitalist regime, I meant the government.

The English and French have different cultures. They behave differently in certain situations, have unique social etiquates, different restaurants and perhaps the biggest difference is the language as well as the accent, educational system, seperate sports leagues and French cities are the complete opposite to English cities.

The Americans and Canadians on the other hand seem to behave in exactly the same way. Their cities look the same and operate in the same way as American cities. They have access to all the American TV srations, they speak the same accent and share the same sports leagues for Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and Football(CFL). I also presume that the school system is the same (high school 14-18). I think the Canadians have been socialised by the media and all their American investments and broadcasts in being American.

Ha, I appear to have pwned all those people who see Canadians as different to Americans. Discuss.

Don't listen to him, he's probably got no grasp of what asian culture is like.

I have, in my college (english meaning) about three quarters of my class are Asian origin and in Psychology at the moment I am doing cultural differences in relationships and about 25% of my towns population are Asian.

first of all there are limited teams in other sports besides the NHL that are Canadian, also the CFL is CAnadian and the NFL is american, the school systems are similar but different, we also have much different post secondary educations. We also speak different than the americans especially those from the deep south. Also French is one of national languages as well. We incorporate socialism into our society, atleast in Ontario, with public healthcare, unlike the states.

At the very base of it Canadians are more liberal and open.
There are always going to be similarities in two countries side by side, formed around the same time and settled by Europeans. By no means are they the same .
Both countries fundamentally have different political landscapes and values.

The UK has Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales which are all very similar in political values but have different sports, education, accents...etc

this is because up till recently we were run by the same government. Scotland broke away and formed its own government a couple of years ago.
