the BEATLES thread

sure there going to be people here who plainly dont get it.

but then there will also be chaps like me who can't get enough.

FOR THOSE IN DOUBT, i think wikipedia is fairly succinct with this line from the opening paragraph: "They became the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed act in the rock music era.".

it kind of depresses me that there will never be a band of 4 of the best musicians on the planet, writing groundbreaking music, recording in the world's top studio with the top engineers, in one of the most socially important periods of modern history.

i love reading about them playing 8 hour gigs EVERY night while in hamburg, practicing in the studio during lunch breaks when all the abbey road staff were in the pub. its no wonder they achieved what they did on a musical perspective.

the amount of different genres their back catalogue covers is ridiculous, they could pull off pretty much anything.

the whole studio side of things is fascinating, I dont think anything since can be comparable in terms of whats groundbreaking.

lets DISCUSS.

[ringo haters can slag him all they want, but he had an awesome & distinctive groove, and most importantly drummed for the song].

i suppose this is ultimate METAL.

what makes them overrated? the only person on this planet who got close to their kind of impact was michael jackson, but 1. he's got nothing on them, and 2. he's a kiddy fiddling nonce.

EDIT: someone who thinks they're overrated, tell me: how could they not deserve the success they got when you consider the hours they put in and the serious attitude they took towards it? they worked ridiculous hours in crazy conditions before making it, and worked tirelessly for years once they did make it.

You cannot tag "Overrated" something so Revolutionary (People cannot also deny this FACT) also people don't understand that you don't have to like something to know it was revolutionary... try to learn and play all them songs, definitly some genius composition and harmony usage.

Their music is shit compared to any other rock band. Michael Jackson died for popularizing the worst genre of music in the world.

if you cant put why then you are needlessly running this thread into the shit. what albums/songs are you talking about?

how many albums are you actually familiar with? what is it that makes their music considerably more "shit" than any other rock band?

On the contrary... you can.
You can subjectively question their worth now, without disregarding the effect they had.

Saying you don't like Slayer =/= saying Slayer have no part to play in how metal sound today.

I'd say that I think they are overrated, but not by everyone.
They are overrated in the same way that Jimmi Hendrix is.
In that people who only have a passing interest in music and have very limited listening experience in general proclaim their superiority.
It's just conjecture coming from most people.

This thread was shit instantly as you pressed "submit new thread"

exactly this. would love to hear anyone pull off ANY of the parts in the same way. genius songwriting, chord progressions (im talking more rubber soul onwards).

I actually think Sgt. Pepper is overrated as an album, important culturally though. Would have been better with penny lane/strawberry fields on it IMO.

for anyone who doesn't get them, stick on revolver or the white album and LEARN it. sure there's the odd duff song on there, but thats the beatles for you.

While not a massive Beatles fan, I have also been interested in the back story and in studio information that's come out over the years. Also there is no denying the revolutionary nature of the Beatles and definitely not overrated. But I would expect nothing less from a majority of this particular community in being dismissive of them.

The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix are the two entities from past generations of music that I have a natural curiosity towards both the creative process and the studio aspects of their careers - being completely honest I'm one of those that see Jimi Hendrix as a bit of a crazy genius with a remarkable creative process.

There's nothing wrong with them, it's just that they got too much hype. There are many other artists out there with "genius songwriting" that are much less known. That's all.

Okay so how about I turn into the whole "if it sucks, learn to play it" bullshit in a completely different way? If you don't like Meshuggah (like most people here) learn to play the entire Destroy Erase Improve album.

I had no idea if not being able to play something that somebody else wrote made that person a good musician! Shit, by that logic Dragonforce must be the best band in the fucking world!

That's like saying I can't call Metallica overrated

Overrated to what extent? Do you dismiss their tremendous influence on metal simple because you dislike their later output? I understand liking or disliking bands, but that has nothing to do with how they influenced or the roll they played in metals history.

jesus christ.

you're the first person i've encountered in almost a decade on posting on this forum that I'm not going to waste my time on. i dont really understand the crossover of ignorant bedroom metal guitarists and a recording forum anyway.

Its quite simple. Metallica is a good band, but compared to 90% of good thrash metal bands, their materiel isn't even as good, therefore they are "overrated" And other than that now that they are popular for their actually good albums from their thrash period, they could release any album regardless of style and make more money than nearly any metal band in existence.

I'm not a fan, but I have huge respect for what they did and most important, when they did it.

But I find that feeling quite hard to find in younger generations.

You don't even know what you talking about dude Lol. nobody is talking good musicianship (Ringo wasn't even a good drummer, but he was CREATIVE), we're talking about the level of composition and harmony in their music, it's just fantastic FOR THEIR TIME, what messugah have to do here, when at the time they started all the progresive music had taken the world by the ass? (also, beatles was a massive influence for progressive and psychedelic rock).

They aren't considered the best band in the world cause their musicianship, but for the revolution they made. they're definitely the most influential music group.

I didn't join this site to be part of the recording forum, I do play guitar but at least at the moment, its just a hobby.
