The Best of the Best?

Honestly, the only band so far that I can really call myself a fan of is PC69. I was disappointed not to see David Readman with Adagio last year! Otherwise, I don't own anything from the rest of the lineup. Therion and Orphaned Land, I'm just not feeling it guys! Circus Maximus has some potential for me though. I'm not really feeling Symphorce either. So far, the lineup is flat for me, but I'm still waiting on the final two. Maybe they'll blow me away......

I think that's too bad that someone would avoid a band for years because of a name. It's not like they're the "gay amish rim-jobbers" or something. It was 1989. Pink Cream 69 CERTAINLY sounded different just because they used "Pink" in the name. It was German which rules out much of the gayness right off the bat. Who knew metal better than the Germans back then?

I guess if a band can put out 3 or 4 cds on Sony Records, I'd be interested enough just to hear what is making major label in Europe. I feel like the closed mindedness is often what keeps America's metal/rock scene from blossoming correctly. If people could come together in the metal field and acknowledge/check out a band like Pink Cream 69, maybe we could have less Deftones/Drowning Pool/etc. shlock filling the airwaves and instead have something with melody.

As for Andi Deris being "the worst singer ever", his range is outstanding and he can cover Kiske (a god to many in metal) on High Live as if it were no sweat. Plus, he adds some ballsy gruffness to the girly-clean Kiske tracks, IMO. Not many singers with a clean/rough range like that out there, are there?

im with you 1metal1... closemindness is a very bad thing, its better to just throw yourself into whatever it is and then say, ok i dont like it...

as for vocals... you re right not many singers can do that. I think Hansi Kurch is the best one in this category, although Andi deris is not far away... and he is a hell of a frontman!!! I hope BG tours some day, in the near or far future, lol...

I don't think anyone here would really disagree that closed-mindedness is a bad thing... But if someone's surfing a forum, checking out new music, one is more likely to skip the thread with the words "pink cream" and rush to something like "pain of salvation." It's some pretty uncomfortable imagery, and there's so much music so little time, you know?

But anyway, I think some of their songs, like Gods Come Together and Higher Kind of Love are real cool. There's nothing bad about PC69 at all, just not really anything that grabs me and makes me listen. (Except for when I get one of those catchy refrains stuck in my head);)

It has nothing to do with being closed minded at all. If you see my collection you would understand. Just like everyone else has stated if you're browsing and see a label called Pink Cream 69 in the store and you're looking form some new metal to sepnd your $$ on would you pick that up to look at it or would you pick up something called Brainstorm? Brainstorm sounds metal, PC69 doesn't. And when it comes down to broswing at a store that youre gonna spend 15-18 bucks on a cd first impressions do count for something.

We used to have as tore here in Tampa called Ace's Records. It was an all metal music store full of cd, vinyl, cassettes, shirts, videos, you name it. I would make the trek (about 40 miles from where I live) every week or 2 and just go through the long isles of bins looking for something new. The people that worked there throughout the years (James Murphy being one of them) have turned me on to a lot of cool things. James got me into Solitude Aeturnus, another guy got me into Meshuggah, others include Alas, Lacuna Coil, Gathering, Theatre of Tragedy and more.

Now that the internet is a more viable source to find sound clips on sites it would be easier to finally come across some bands that weren't your first choices in the stores to check out with your money.

Barking Pumpkin brings up a good point. I have about 900 cds but Id say a good 75% of them are bands that I have the entire discography from, like PC 69, Maiden, Priest, Pretty Maids, Helloween, Strat, Id say those 7 bands put together make up close to a hundred albums in my collection. Im an anal completist and if I dig a band I go on a mad hunt to find the rest of their catalog. Finding Bonfire and PRetty Maid's stuff was one hectic and nervewracking experience to say the least.

I agree with Daybreaker. I'm the same way. If I am into a band, then I try to work around to getting what I can of their catalog. I can't be buying over $200 a month on discs as I am an adult over the age of 30 with a few financial responsibilities. Would be nice to be rich, though. Music is just too important to me to go without too much. :worship:

Damn! James Murphy likes Solitude Aeturnus? Man, he is even cooler than I thought he was! :worship:

The Gathering has some really cool material too! Sounds like a cool store!
