I'm going with Soilwork's Figure Number Five. It is utter drivel.

I was never fanatical over CoB in the first place, I've yet to hear Hypocrisy, and although all of you will disagree with this, I think the In Flames R2R reaction was highly exaggerated. I refuse to jump on that bandwagon. From what I hear, the R2R material live is just killer, and in case you're interested, I really liked Clayman too. :)

I went with Hypocrisy. Everything from 'THe 4th Dimension' up to the self titled were fantastic. 'Into the Abyss' had a few good moments, but Catch 22 sucked. Peter even admitted Slipknot influenced the album.

Never heard FN5, but their first four were about as exciting as watching grass grow.

CoB had one good album, 'Hatebreeder'. wouldn't say they sold out. Their just repeating themselves, rendering them a total bore.

R2R sucks. I could care less about a bandwagon. Labelling people as bandwagon jumpers just because they don't like R2R is a gross generalization. Did they tone down their sound? Yes. But it really didn't surprise me, as Clayman was heading in that direction.

Damn! I'll go with R2R. I can't change the poll! :ill:

You've got to be kidding!!!!!! Without doubt, generalizing amongst metal fans is the easiest stereotype you've got going (Opeth fans anyone?). People were bound to diss R2R before it even came out, and anyone who disagreed faced a backlash. The funniest people were the ones who claimed to hate R2R, but couldn't explain why...

Did they tone down their sound? Yes.

Not from Clayman they didn't. "Metaphor" might be a diversion, but everything else was Clayman all over with a few more clean vocals chucked in. And the R2R stuff in a live setting had In Flames fans of old eating humble pie.

But it really didn't surprise me, as Clayman was heading in that direction.

Their second best album IMO, after Jester Race. :) Wish I saw them at Wacken *sigh* doing Pinball Map back to back with Moonshield.

I thought the poll was which one sold out the most as well. I don't like any of those, but oh well.

I was just saying that lumping together anyone who dislikes R2R is a grave injustice. Sure, there are probably some that don't like it for no reason at all. But what about those that actually dislike the music for what it is (or isn't)? I know phyre, PapaJosh and myself think it's a festering pile of feces. I think the only song worth its weight is the title track.

R2R is a lot softer than Clayman. Clean vocals are far more present than Friden's "growl". Hell, he really doesn't growl anymore. Solos were majorly lacking, which was a strong point of early In Flames.

Their second best album IMO, after Jester Race. :) Wish I saw them at Wacken *sigh* doing Pinball Map back to back with Moonshield.

Bullet Ride and Swim are the only worthy mentions for Clayman in my estimation. The stuff without Friden is much better. Henke Forss wipes the floor with him. We had a discussion about The Jester Race in the AA forum. It just doesn't really stand up any more. It has failed the test of time for some. Sure, Moonshield is great, but the stuff from Subterranean and Lunar Strain is better, and it's in greater numbers.

I've seen them play Pinball Map and Moonshield live. It was a pretty good show.

But all you guys are drunk weirdos with no friends.

I agree with that 100%.

Wow - I guess it depends on how much you listen to something perhaps? Too much of anything is a bad thing, and I just don't have time to listen to the same album over and over. Therefore, each time I listen to Jester Race, it's kinda like listening to it again for the first time. Does that make me lucky?

Yes, if by "fucked up abit" you mean "started writing songs that sound exactly like Slipknot."

Fridén is probably the most awful vocalist in a band signed to a major metal label today.

I'm going with this one. Sure, it may be their weakest release (and Peter's vocals SUCKED for the first time ever), but the last 3 songs are pretty good, and I always was a sucker for On The Edge of Madness. I don't think it sounded like Slipknot, but I've only heard one song from them anyhow.

The others I have yet to hear. Soilwork didn't blow me away live last year, I hear mixed things about CoB and havne't taken the plunge yet, and the only In Flames I have is The Jester's Race, which uh... isn't very good. o_O

First time I'ver ever heard anyone say that. It's one of my favorite albums of all time and is without a doubt one of the true defining albums of the melodic death metal genre.
I don't think it is bad but I find other melodic death so much better. However, I do prefer my melodic death more aggressive than power metal style, maybe that's why I don't like it as much as others.

It's getting to the point where the only difference between melodic death and power metal is the vocals.

And that sucks for us non-power metal types. :Smug:

Precisely NAD. Hell, if CoB actually sang instead of using black metal type vocals, they'd be a full-on power metal band.

I liked Jester Race when I bought it, but I've always found Lunar Strain, Subterranean, and even Colony better all the way through. If In Flames released Jester Race today, it would be lost among other like-minded albums.

Well I did just buy the album a year ago, maybe if I would have gotten it when it came out it would be a different story. I try to put myself in the year the album was released when I buy an older release, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Although when the masterpiece Carcass - Heartwork came out before the Jester's Race...

However, I will say that the album has one of the best guitar tones I have ever heard.
