The conditions of 'God'

CA asked
I do often wonder one thing though, why is it people find it so hard to believe anything in the bible (or any other religious text for that matter) but they believe science without a doubt?
so it's really irrelevant whether I see something beyond science as well. The answer to CA's question is simple; things considered scientific fact can be proven (as far as anything at all can be proven) and the bible can not. Believing in proven science as fact is quite beneficial to me so I do it, that is not to say that I think science explains everything or that I disregard an 'inner, subjective world.'

I do not fear death because it is useless to fear something inevitable. Demonspell has a point -- I rather fear the decay of my person prior to dying (or rather hope that I will not have to go through much shit like that) -- but a lot of people will explicitely tell you that they fear death.

BUT anything subjective can NEVER be proven. It can only be INTERPRETED, like musical taste, life experiences, etc. Hell the only way we can "understand" one another is through interpretation of speech (and sometimes actions). Just because something cannot be proven, only interpreted, does not mean that mean that the subjective doesn't exist. You like Darkthrone, I can't prove it. That is not to say that I cannot interpret this conclusion through what you say. In short: "cold hard facts" can only go so far; in a sense, they are "half" the battle.

Right, we're on the same page then... I was only trying to explain why I have an easier time believing in scientific facts than religious writings.

Bubliboo is God.

I'm with Hobbes in that I fear violent death, but not what happens afterwards. Who cares? I'll be dead!

I'm not saying to not believe anything science has to say, I'm saying that it's ridiculous that some people believe in science to the point of dogma and then they say that they KNOW religion is complete bullshit.

How would one KNOW science is correct?

I guess it is just down to how the person interprets it.

But, why do some monotheists consider paganism 'supersitious' when they believe everything they read in the bible? Why does one god make more sense than many?

Xenophobia. The more religious people I know take other faiths as a threat rather than difference in opinion. Makes sense though, because religious tenets are not taught as being subjective ideas.

I'm generalizing of course, I know some Christians that fully admit their faith is not necessarily fact.
