The Devil You Know

Well he did have the original versions to listen to and compare to, melody-wise. I'm sure there were changes and stuff he took liberties with but it's not like he didn't know what they were expecting, melody-wise.
Give Joey some respect,he owns on the 2 songs I've heard, not a suprise actually,I have never doubted his talent

I also heard in an interview that they pretty much stuck Joey in a room and said "go do your thing," and didn't try to micro manage the vocals like they had in the past, and I gotta say it sounds like it worked out great.

I heard that too. And I also heard in the interview that Dan Nelson was the best singer they had ever had, and...so forth.
I mean, listen to the first version of Fight 'Em - almost zero change, lyrics or vocal melodywise.

U can't deny that Joey sounds great,it's no secret that the record was finished with another singer, why would u want to change the vocal lines of the song just for the sake of it,why are u trying so hard to knock Joey, embrace it buddy.

Umm...the melody of the entire chorus changed. In fact it had no melody with Dan Nelson in the "I'll end you" part. Scott switched to sing Dan's parts, and Joey changed Scott's part and gave it melody. Joey actually improved it, IMO.

My fears were that the rest of the band still couldn't figure out how to write great thrash songs. This song has more in common with The Damned Things than it does with the Joey era Anthrax. So I am let down by that. This certainly doesn't appear to be a return to greatness of a thrash metal legend. But we'll see what the rest of the album has in store.

Never realized they were trying to go back in time? They needed a singer - they hired their old singer. Doesn't mean they are automatically writing music that sounds exactly like it used to. The music would have been the same no matter which of the 3 guys were singing.

And this album now IS Joey era Anthrax. deal with it.

Well said Deege. I don't want a dated-sounding album, I want something new and refreshing and so far I feel that from the new songs.

If you consider the same type of song they have been writing during the Bush era "new and refreshing" then I guess you have gotten what you wanted to hear.

IMO there is nothing refreshing about writing radio/rock songs they have been doing the past 15 years. There is nothing new or refreshing about this imo.

Wow Deege, did you just give a compliment and admit to liking a Joey Belladonna song?

I complimented it when they first played it live with Joey and it popped up on Youtube. They improved the chorus a lot from the Dan Nelson version. It sounded better.
I'd still prefer John, it'd be way cooler.

The Devil You Know sounds like it was written for Bush and, for my tastes, it's a bit generic. Fight 'Em was great and I'm hoping TDYK is the weakest track on the album.

I'm very happy with the new music!

You are also very happy with Bushthrax sounding music, many are not. And I think you have a very hard time accepting that. Songs like The Devil You Know have put some concern into many old school Anthrax fans about the mind set and the direction of the band. I think many were hoping for a Thrash Metal album and not another Bushthrax sounding effort. But time will tell, I am sure there will be some more thrashy type material on the album.

Even that being said it's worrisome that they put out pop/rock sounding songs like this one. They seem to try and write these radio/rock songs and try to make hits instead of just not giving a fuck and going all out.

But it is what it is, I am sure you also enjoy Safe Home, Only and the other radio rock hits. Others don't. Thats just how it is, was, and will always be
