The Devil You Know

Its almost a pop song. A band like Cold will always be way more radio friendly than Anthrax will ever be. To me Cold sounds like a band fans of Nickelback, Evanescence and Disturbed would enjoy.

You could say that about Cold after the 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage album for sure. But the first Cold album and 13 Ways To Bleed on Stage are far from pop music. It is depressing, dark music. They don't sound like any of those bands you just mentioned.

In 2011

Doesn't look like pop to me
They are dark and heavy. Their S/T album is a musical masterpiece that not many people will ever 'get'.. and thats fine with me.

Cold turned into a more mainstream sounding band after those records that is very true but still not a pop band by any means.

In any case I wouldn't expect fans of Anthrax to be Cold fans its a totally different type of music

To me this song is nothing like "radio friendly pop", come on it's no Nickelback. The production is very old school Anthrax-like. And I still think Joey's thin voice is the weakest thing on it.

At least you still are hating joeys voice i'll give you that! But this song is definitely commercial sounding for a big 4 'thrash band;, you must agree on that. I know you like the bushtrax era so im sure you are used to songs like this. But hopefully this is the only 'pop' song on this album. Certainly not nickleback though I'll agree with you on that one

Not hating...just don't like it so much.

Do you think them having Joey sing on this will help or hurt the bands career? Do you think if John Bush was singing on this song or any of this album that it would make it better or worse for the future of this band?

To me I think this type of song in particular is better suited for John Bush since it sounds more like a bush era song than a Joey era song. But I think that having Joey on vocals will help get the band some much needed publicity and ultimately keep the band going so they can at least do another album after this one and keep touring.

joey brings something original to anthrax,no one quite sounds like joey,it gives anthrax an edge, anthrax did lose alot of there identity with bush,i loved alot of stuff with bush as i was a die hard fan but to the average joe he didnt stand out or do anything more than decent job fronting anthrax.

Pretty much, at least they can hype it as a "comeback".

See.... this is where your logic just totally baffles me.

Why couldn't an Anthrax fan be a Cold fan also?

You get off on Cannibal Corpse and Iron Maiden....... are they similar in styles or did I miss something here.....???

You are also very happy with Bushthrax sounding music, many are not. And I think you have a very hard time accepting that. Songs like The Devil You Know have put some concern into many old school Anthrax fans about the mind set and the direction of the band. I think many were hoping for a Thrash Metal album and not another Bushthrax sounding effort. But time will tell, I am sure there will be some more thrashy type material on the album.

Even that being said it's worrisome that they put out pop/rock sounding songs like this one. They seem to try and write these radio/rock songs and try to make hits instead of just not giving a fuck and going all out.

But it is what it is, I am sure you also enjoy Safe Home, Only and the other radio rock hits. Others don't. Thats just how it is, was, and will always be

I'll type this very slowly so maybe you can finally get it in your head:

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT "MANY" WERE EXPECTING OR WHAT "MANY" LIKE. I DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK. IF I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT.

Get it?

+1

Oh and I actually own Cold's Year of the Spider cd. I was just making a point.

Don't you get tired of the whole 'nobody cares what you think' statement? It is funny how everyone posts that right after actually caring what I said enough to actually reply.

No matter what I say you and a few others below you love to come back with "We don't care what you think". Its quite cute

But actually that statement 'nobody cares what you think' is generalizing speaking about everyone on this forum, every Anthrax fan, new and old, and it's just not true. Plenty of people care what I say, and plenty of people care what you say as well. So your statement is in essence doing the same thing you accuse me of doing and generalizing and assuming everyone thinks the same way you do. Nice work!

No. I don't speak for anyone but myself. You are always talking about what "most people" want from Anthrax, well I really don't care about that. You, on the other hand, seem to be really concerned about what "most people" think since that's your argument every time you defend your opinion.

And why would I not respond when you quote me directly and try to talk down to me because I like some music you don't? "You must also think that songs like Safe Home and Toast To The Extras are great songs blah blah blah..." Actually no, but I think that songs like Random Acts of Senseless Violence and What Doesn't Die are, so fuck you.

Once again: If I like it, I like it. It's got nothing to do with you.

You don't like Safe Home? It's a great song!

everyone has a diff idea what is heavy or rock or pop to them is,i think devil is a hard rock song but for someone that lives and breathes death metal u might think its a pop song, for me i class pantera as a crushing metal band but also appreciate some death metal bands such as carcass or morbid angel are much heavier than them but for me i prefer pantera's delivery, each to there own, music is a very personal thing.

Iron Maiden haven't had a hit single in their entire career,

Are you even an Iron Maiden fan? Run to the Hills was a hit single for them way back and Bring Your Daughter was a NUMBER ONE - I would call that a fucking HIT single, you cock. Seriously - I wonder if you actually know anything about these bands you claim to love.
Oh maybe you meant in the US, like only the USA matters to anyone? You stupid fucker.

I spoke to Billy Milano the other day and he was laughing out loud about the entire thing. It's sad to be honest.

Billy Milano was laughing at Anthrax? No, really? The only reason anyone has ever heard of the fat oaf is because he was part of an Anthrax side project, what the fuck has he ever done since the first SOD album worthy of note? Fuck all!

"I spoke to Billy Milano the other day"....:tickled: Did you get his autograph on your fucking tits? Was he able to hold a pen in his fat digits?

:hahamiddlefinger:

I am into bands like Jethro Tull, and Fairport Convention, with flutes and mandolins and shit like that. I am also into heavier stuff - more "extreme" stuff than IMFan by his own admission.
And I say "Devil" is a good song, whether it sounds like a 1987 thrash song or not I don't give a fuck, I just want to hear a GOOD SONG.

Fuck that guy and his stupid opinion of what makes a song worthwhile.

All that said, it's not anywhere near as good as "Fight Em", and would certainly sound better with Bush on the mic, it's not a song for Joey.
