The Devil You Know

State of Euphoria is my least favorite Joey album but it is still a thrash metal album for the most part. Be all End all is one of my favorite Anthrax songs. Not sure what is 'weak' about it.

I know the Anthrax members themselves have slagged this album as their least favorite, but there's actually plenty of good riffing and music. I'd say this album is Charlie's best effort drummingwise, he plays some unbelievable stuff here.

I never understood why they didn't like it.. Be All End All, Anti Social, Now it's Dark and Schism are someof my favorite Anthrax tunes.. That is the skin I chose for this site too ;)

If I remember correctly, I believe they said they didn't feel they had enough time to make the album sound the way they wanted it to. Personally, I agree with you, I love SOE.

You're right. They think the songs needed more work and they were rushed to go out on tour. I've asked the question many times (once as recently as two weeks ago) and always gotten the same answer. I ask it again and again because I can't believe they think it's so bad.
I also agree with you, I love the album. There's an energy in those grooves and Charlie just kills it. Be All, End All, Make Me Laugh, Now It's Dark, Finale...
I don't know how much better it could've been.

St Anger was an attempt to be Limp Bizkit, I would say that's as "pop" as you could get at that point.

At what point did you hear something on St Anger that reminded you of Limp Bizkit? I never once heard James trying to rap his way through that record, I didn't hear any turntable scratching effects, nor did I once hear those annoying synthesisers in the background. What I heard was a wealthy bunch of morons spending a small fortune to make it sound like they recorded their album in a garage, when they could have saved a ton of money by simply making their record in a garage.

The only similarity between Limp Bizkit and St Anger that I'm aware of is the fact they both suck. Barry Manilow sucks too, and he came first; so were Metallica and Limp Bizkit trying to sound like him?

The drums that sounded like trash cans?

Okay, now I'm hearing Metallica covering "Looks Like We Made It." It would have fit on Load

I guess I'll have to take your word for it. I can't claim to have listened to enough Limp Bizkit to know off the top of my head what the drums sound like. Even so, how does one possible similarity at best mean they were trying to sound like Limp Bizkit? Nothing else about that record sounded anything at all like Limp Bizkit. They just sucked all on their own.

The sad thing is I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Throw in some Kenny Loggins and REO Speedwagon covers, and give it some terrible name like Tales From the Green Room, and voila: Metallica are done recording for ten years.

Back on topic, I'm still trying to decide how I feel about The Devil You Know. Not that it's a terrible song or anything, but it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. I don't hate it, but I'm glad Fight Em was released first. I'm skipping the single, but am anxiously awaiting the chance to hear Earth on Hell and Revolution Screams. I honestly don't remember the last time I was this anxious about a record.

Nah, still cheesy lyrics though.

Anthrax is famous for their cheesiness...Stomp, V8 and WCFYA got some awfully cheesy stuffs too..

 SOE being my first ANTHRAX album that i own, is truly special. Never a dull moment, from start to finish, even the interlude 13 is cool, understanding why Joey says FUCK so much in Now It's Dark, made it even more special. Listening to Who Cares Wins brings chill every time, what a theme for a song!!
cheesy? yes..and that is the reason i was hooked.

Yep, back track a bit & then it's full speed ahead!!

I still remember waiting for POT to come out! My father drove me to the mall so I could buy it on cassette. I played it on the way home even though I knew he couldn't stand it lol . Just the way 'Time' started off at that time. I was thinking 'holy mother of fuck' this is awesome!
