The Economy

All this political talk by both sides is just plain horse shit, it's just like a used car salesman, "I will give you this car for this amount of Money" but only between the hours of 10:00am and 10:00:30 am after that the price is doubled" They promise you the world when they know they can't deliver. So we as voters basically have to decide which is the lesser of two evils. You got to remember both parties have people that will take a statement made by the opposition and then put their spin on it or take a statistic and shape it to make it look better than it is, case in point, Bill Clinton's statement that "HE" had created over 20 million new jobs, excuse me, then why did we still have an unemployment rate? Based on the US population at the time 20 million jobs would account for over 22% of the available US workforce, and at the time we had an unemplyment rate of just over 4%, so if he created 20 million jobs why wasn't our unemployment rate 0% or a negative, why? Because it was not a true statement, it was a manipulation of numbers and stats. So folks be careful of what you hear and what you believe, and just because your democrat or republican, vote the best candiate(in your opinion) not what your told to vote. Now i can get off my soapbox and finish my coffee, thanks for listening, but remember this is my opinion and not the opinion of management or even the majority, i have just been around a long time and have been lied to by so many candiates it's hard for me to talk any of them seriously, they have to prove to me their worth, and conviction.

How dare you claim my Kool-Aid is tainted!

Dear God. Thank you, sir.

So many times when my friends are talking about politics I'll hear them spitting out "factoids" that are ripped straight out of political ads or parties' agendas. I try to tell them they shouldn't take everything at face value, but they're so entrenched in what they want to hear that it's no use most of the time.

I .. hate .. politics...

... but I hate misinformation so much more

Okay here is a huge bit of misinformation being put out by one of the camps, but first some background. accoording to the US census there are approximately 100 million households in the USA right now, and expected to increase to 103 million by 2010.

Okay one camp claims that the other candiate's tax plan benefits big business and Oil companies but does nothing for over 100 million US households, hmmmmmmmm so the so called tax plans do nothing for any one? You research it and do the math, and you will see that it is spin on the truth as usual.

I had a whole thing typed out in response about how Obama is going to ultimately end up being just another politician who talks big and doesn't follow through and how bitter and cynical I was going to be in 2012, but as I went to post it, the forums closed, and so I copied it to my clip board, but my computer rebooted.

Anyway, general synopsis:

I continue to believe in Obama. He gets elected by a landslide. He fails to deliver 'change'. Everyone in the USA becomes bitter and cynical. 2012 rolls around, it's Obama vs. Palin. She wins by a landslide. I move to Ireland and denounce my citizenship. The end.

All those who really want Obama to win... be careful what you ask for!

In four years, you'll be probably pissed off with him just as you are now with Dubbya.

Just because he's for change, he may not change what you want to be changed, or change it beyond what you were wanting, or not change it enough.

Beware of change, because the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Good luck in 2012.

Whoever wins this election is going to end up a one term president. Palin won't run in 2012 though. No way she'd get the nomination.

Don't let the screen door hit ya where the good Lord split ya! :heh:

Ok, normally I stay quiet and just enjoy the friendly banter. But this is one topic that is really important to me and really gets under my skin when I hear people talk about it. I know who I intend to vote for. I am not here to tell anyone how to vote. If people would take the time to list as few as 5 political issues that are important to them and actually do research on how the candidates actually voted or refrained from voting on those issues, I think a lot of people may actually be surprised where a candidate may actually stand on the issues. The candidates are going to tell you what they think you want to hear. The media is only going to push on you ultimately their opinion (fair and balanced-yeah right. total BS). And most people base their decisions on the previous two. God only knows the candidates and media will never lie to you or distort any truths.
I thought of 7 issues I felt were important to me. After roughly 20 hours(about 2 hours a day over 10 days), I was shocked at how votes were actually cast and how misinformed that I had been and actually changed who I will be voting for. Like I said, I am not here to tell people who to vote for. I encourage everyone to vote. But before you do, please take the time to do your homework and find out how your candidate of choice votes on the things you feel most important. Then compare that to what you hear afterwards.
20 hours may sound like a lot of time. But with the next 4 to 8 years riding on how you vote, to me, it is time well spent.

And since I have managed to waste this much of your time, I will go ahead and waste a minute longer for thase that have managed to hang in there with me.
Let your representatives know how you feel. If only 50% of all Americans would speak up and voice our concerns directly to them, I think we all would be shocked at how quickly government would clean itself up. Speaking amongst our selves is fine. But while we do that, the lobbyist and special interest groups are the only voices the politicians are hearing.

Sorry for the long winded post. I want to see every one vote and every vote count. I would just like to see that most of them are actually informed votes.

Obama's plan might claim to give tax breaks to 95% of Americans. Obama also wants socialized medicine, in addition to all of his other socialist programs -- all on the heels of the largest corporate bailout in our history. Where is all this money going to come from? The guy can only gouge the rich so much before the trickle-down effect starts to put people out of work across the country. And what did the rich do to deserve the ridiculous gouging that Obama wants to do to them? Just because they're rich doesn't mean they don't work very hard for their money. What right do we have to take their money from them just because "they can afford it"??

But you forgot...

"It's patriotic to pay taxes"

Joe Biden

I know exactly the commercial you're talking about... The whole thing is tricky deception.

I can think of one thing that McCain could do to galvanize the election (for good or ill), regarding tax policy. Anyone else know what it is?

No-one took this bait, so I'll answer myself.

McCain could express solid support for consideration of the Fair Tax. At this late juncture with Obama leading in most polls by double digits, it probably couldn't hurt...and 'tis better to go down fighting and at least get the issue firmly out into the public eye for good.

Yep, I think I caught a split second of that ad earlier tonight.

BTW, I'm happy with my TV watching schedule, only watching [adult swim] at night...since none of the parties buys ads on Adult Swim or Cartoon Network. :)

I confess I'm curious about this. (I'm gonna guess judging from your post that you've switched to Obama.)

Aaaaaaa-men!

It isn't often our alleged representatives in Congress truly listen to their constituencies -- which might be why Congress has an even lower approval rating than George W Bush, and THAT's sayin' something.
But when the people speak clearly and loudly on something, things can change.

We saw it with the immigration bill (defeated).
We saw it with the bailout bill (defeated the first time through).

As one Georgia lawmaker said about the first bailout bill, "When your calls and emails are running 300 to 1 against some legislation, it's hard to ignore them."

Well, then a number of things might happen:
You'll go to hell
You'll re-live your life as a servant
You'll enter the living of the dead
Or you'll resurrect and find yourself having vision of fire and pain.

Ah, not many people are going to get that joke. :hypno: sigh

I got it...cute. :p Don't hate me Minerva, it's just politics. I'm convinced that all of these politicians in both parties are in it for a "career". That's the problem right there, they put themselves before the people they're suppose to be representing.

OK I'm not even a Palin fan but when you call people PSYCHO and talk about her being a murderer and eating babies, I hope you don't expect to be taken seriously or have a shred of credibility.

WELL, considering you remembered the words "palin" "murderer" "psycho" and "eating babies" I think my job is done here :) now all I have to do is say the words together enough and i'll have successfully conditioned you
I could have a political mind too ya know <3

"the terrorists! yarg!"

I'm not a politician, i'm not looking for credibility (or a paycheck).
