So, i was wanting to experiment with a few soloing ideas but at the same time, didn't wanna program basslines and i didn't have a bass so for shits and giggles i recorded the bassline on my EMG loaded Jackson RR on clean, pitchshifted down an octave, ran through IK Multimedia's ampeg VST and some compression/eqing, BAM, pretty good bass sound.

It's no obvious substitution for a real bass but beats the hell out of programming a bassline especially if you're in a hurry.

Anyone else do this or am i mad?

I do sometimes, when I believe the idea of the song is worth it ( that's a 15% of the times roughly  )...but, thanks to my horrid soundcard, sounds even worse
What I find harder to get is the "fullness" of the big bass strings, no matter how much I eq it.

I'm pretty sure Black Neon Bob does that on his stuff and his stuff sounds frickin amazing!

Yeah, I often do this when demoing a song in hurry or if I'm being plain lazy. It works ok if the song hasn't got any parts where the bass should stick out, but with my lack of skills I can't get it sound anywhere near the real deal when listened carefully. Fills the low end nicely, tho'.
