The first Simon & Garfunkel album `Wednesday Morning 3AM` stiffed when it was released in 1964 but it was decided to resurrect the career based on one of those earlier songs `The Sounds of Silence`.

‘Sounds of Silence’ went unnoticed on the first album to years earlier but when it came back as the title track of the 1966 Simon & Garfunkel album, the career of the duo took off.

‘Sounds of Silence’ was released on January 17, 1966.

The newer version took a tip from Bob Dylan who had recently gone from an acoustic to an electric act. The 1966 version of ‘The Sounds of Silence’ had electric instruments and drums added in June 1965 for inclusion of the soundtrack to the movie ‘The Graduate’.

Most recently, the song was also used in the movie ‘The Watchmen’.
