The Friday Five

Today's questions are quite random (no, I don't come up with these myself):

1. Do you like chicken?

2. What is 1 food you can't live without?

3. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

4. Chocolate or vanilla?

5. Are you more of a cat person or a dog person?

1. Yes

2. Cheese

3. Both

4. Vanilla. Chocolate sucks

5. Cat person. Cats are simply better

Today's questions:

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?

2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?

3. What was your first car and what was it like?

4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?

5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?
I'm 20 years old and I still have a permit . In New York, it's 16 to get a permit, 18 to get a full license. If you attend driver's ed you can get a junior license at 17, but it's kind of pointless imo. With a permit, a person can drive as long as they have a licensed driver in the car with them. By the way, there's a perfectly valid reason for me still having a permit. I can drive quite well, I just don't have the time to wait 293743982 hours at the DMV for my license.

2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?
As of now my father drives me places, and my sister if I nag her enough. 95% of the time I just take the subway.

3. What was your first car and what was it like?
Don't have a car yet :tickled:

4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?
Haven't gotten one of those yet, either :tickled:

5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?
A couple of years ago my father was driving me to school on his way to work and he made a left turn from the middle lane. A cop pulled us over and my dad was like "I work for the city" and presented his ID card (he works for the transit authority). It has his name, rank, ID number, everything. The dolt of a cop was like "this is just a metrocard!" so my father showed him his badge which doesn't hold any weight at all, but is pretty and shiny so the cop let him off the hook.

1. ARGH DON'T ASK ME THAT QUESTION!!!!111111 :waah:
2. I always get rides from my dad or aunt.
3. ...
4. *sighs*
5. I took a trip to Boston several times... those have always been fun.

EDIT: Apparently my aunt is an idiot and won't give me rides anymore.

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?

17, I think. Hard to remember back that long.

2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?

Nope, I walked for the most part. For long trips, I'd ride my bike.

3. What was your first car and what was it like?

The first car I bought myself was my '95 Camaro Z28.

4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?

I got pulled over by cops in high school driving my parents' car, but they were just out to hassle some long hairs. They didn't cite me or anything. My first actual ticket was for "excessive acceleration" in my Z28. Some drunk guys pulled up next to me at a stop light and were talking a bunch of shit. I released full vengeance when the light turned green - full on tire smoke and everything. About a mile down the road, I saw the cop pull out of the same traffic I was just in and turn their lights on. I pulled down the next side street and waited a good 25 seconds before they caught up to me.

5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?

I was out driving one afternoon and some young frat stud pulled up next to me in his li'l Mustang with his hot sorority girl in the passenger seat. I was too busy looking at the girl instead of mashing the gas. We pulled up at the next stop light and I blew the shit out of his little Ford. Then I slowed down and let them catch up to me. Neither of them would even glance in my direction. That was funny stuff.

Oh, and then there was the time back in Lubbock when a hot and even cool stripper lived below my apartment. I was coming back from somewhere late at night and she was out with her boyfriend. He thought he was flashy in his modified Fiero GT (hahahaha) and actually challenged me at a light. Fuck, I can't believe how badly I busted his ass. I was on the balcony when they finally pulled up. She laughed as she walked by and said, "wow, you're car is fast". I thought that was justice enough for that little fuck. I don't recall seeing him around anymore after that night...

1) 16 (yes we had cars back then, ya bastids!)

2) Beater car from my dad's work, they were going to junk it, so my dad inquired about it. It lasted me all of 6 or 7 months before it died....I actually had this car when I was 15....

3) 1972 Pontiac Catalina, 400ci & a 4 barrel carb. Giant boat compared to today, and it ate more gas than the space shuttle. It was a beater, but it was still pretty quick right up until it died.

4) 16 (lol) sideswiped a guy on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, tore off one of the bumber shock absorbers, tied it up, and the excess rope wrapped around the fan shaft as I was driving to the police station. used a tiny swiss army knife to cut the rope away, took over an hour. THEN made my way to the cop shop to fill out the report.

5) I have 2 - first was racing an MR-2 from Chicago to Milwaukee, while taking some band members to a gig. It was like Cannonball Run, my Dodge Daytona turbo beat the MR2! Second was an accident in the same car. Got cut off on the expressway during a huge rain storm, and hydroplaned 2 360's down a very steep embankment. Cop saw it happened, couldn't belive it didn't roll down the hill, and the cop turned out to be someone I worked with in my youth. Pulled mud & cat tails out from the underside of my car for a week afterwards. For the record, I did not shit myself during the wipeout, even if I had every right to.

1. I plan on gtting it this year, after I get more practice. But when I do, First stop: Guitar Center.

2. I should have my own ride right now, but my uncle still hasnt filled out the papers to transfer the ownership of the car to me.

3. Getting my dad's old Toyota Camry, then I'm stealing my mom's Acura MDX.

4. I got mine in June this year. My bro was driving me to my final exam, and a cop pulls us over because we weren't wearing our seatbelts. And I was late because of that.

5. So one night, me and my other 2 Ax-Wielding bandmates are rollin' (in my guitarrist's Mercedes, aka the Gat-Mobile) lookin for something to do, and we pull up to a red light with another car with a friend of ours in the backseat. That car revs its engine 3 times, and without hesitation, my guitarrist just says "Aww, do I HAVE to race?" The light turned green, and both cars floored it. We smoked their narry asses.:rock:And we stop short for a red light while going 75 mph, and I almost flew through the windshield. Thank the gods for Seatbelts.:notworthy

1. 16
2. got rides from my parents and friends initially, then I got to use my dad's Toyota truck during my senior year
3. Honda Civic - my baby, and has always run without any major problems! :)
4. lucky me, no traffic tickets yet!
5. my friends and I drove up a mountain in New Mexico for some snow boarding a few years back. Coming down was freekin' scary because there was still some ice on the road, and I wasn't sure how my car would handle. I had 3 others with me, so when I got us down safely I patted myself on the back

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?
Sixteen.
2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?
I used the oldest of my parents' two cars, which I ultimately bought from them when I was 17.
3. What was your first car and what was it like?
The aforementioned car which I bought from my parents was a 1967 Dodge Coronet station wagon (3 on the tree, baybee!); it was blue and huge, 'a fine showboat' as I used to call it.
4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?
I got a ticket for 'driving on the wrong side of the road' when I was only parked facing the wrong way. Pissed me off that the cop made a moving violation out of it when I wasn't even in the damn car at the time *grumble*.
5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?
I guess that'd be back in 1986 when I was driving a bunch of drunk friends from San Jose to Palo Alto to see Y&T play at The Keystone..the car (a '67 Chevelle belonging to one of the drunk friends) was such a piece of crap. On the freeway, one of the wheels came off..yup, came right off. The car went careening into the center divider, then bounced off to the right, bounced off a couple of vehicles (one was a truck that flipped completely over & landed back on its wheels), & landed in the iceplant on the side of the freeway. By the time the car stopped, there was only one wheel left on it (told you it was a piece of crap), and as I was the only sober one in the car, of course I was the only one who was injured. Luckily no one else in the other vehicles were hurt, but amusingly enough, the guy who owned the car actually tried to blame me for the accident..*snort*.

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?
16.
2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?
My mom handed down her GMC Jimmy to me, which ahd already been beat to hell and back by my older brother. I LOVED that thing.
3. What was your first car and what was it like?
Besides the Jimmy, my '95 Cavalier. It's average in everyway, can fit a halfstack in the trunk, and has a Symphony X bumper sticker on the back. :)
4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?
Just a parking ticket outside of Tom's Diner. It was worth it - Tom's Diner is awesome.
5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?
Roadtripping from Pittsburgh to LA and back this summer. I wouldn't even know where to begin! That or all the times my friends and I would go purposely get lost on back roads in the middle of nowhere, just to see if we could find ourselves home. We were stupid.

1. How old were you when you got your drivers license?
i think i was actually 18. yup, loser mooch :D

2. Did you get your own car right away, use the family car, or bum rides from friends?
Bum rides mostly. That's always fun.

3. What was your first car and what was it like?
'91 Volkswagon Jetta POS LE haha. It sucked. It stopped working on the freeway while i was talking to matt moliti on the phone. Had it taken to the junk yard.

4. How old were you when you got your first traffic ticket and what happened?
Actually just happened about 4 months ago. Speeding ticket. Because i was speeding.

5. What is your favorite car story, be it an accident, road trip, etc?
Um... probably rear ending someone at about 2 miles an hour because i let my foot off the break because i was headbanging with my friends to nevermore. Did about 300 bucks worth of damage to my car, not a scratch on the other.

I almost rear-ended someone much faster last weekend because I was switching CD tracks (Blind Guardian FYI), but luckily my drummer started screaming. I stopped about 2 inches from their bumper.

1. 16
2. Almost right away, the fam had an old beater to give to me
3. An old Renault. It was dark green and had lost all of the original paint's shine. Looked rather like a terd. Topped out around 60mph. For my driving test me (not a small guy), my mom (I love her, but not a small woman) and the tester (probably 300+ lbs) all piled into this thing and couldn't get it above 45. Suffice it to say the freeway portion of the test was interesting. The A/C spat water and it stalled whenever you stopped. I called it auto-park :)
4. I was 23, about 2 months ago. Cop busted me for 80 in a 65 driving back from a business trip in Quebec. Got it plead down to a non-moving violation
5. The driving test story from #3  , or possibly when I went sports car test driving. Ended up buying a 350z

Did you make it to see Y&T? they rocked...i guess 86 would have been around the Down for the Count/Contagious period.
