Anyone else here a fan of The Juliana Theory? I guess they used to be "emo" or something like that. I actually really hate their old stuff! But they're undergone a huge change on their major-label debut "Love"... which I believe was released late last year (but I only just got it)... it's actually rather heavy... and seems to fuse pop with metal and emo... it's really really good... the musicianship is tight... the vocals are distinctive and versatile... the songs are varied... it's just a fantastic album and I can't get enough of it!

Hey PMF -

What would you compare them to? Any band in particular?

By the way, you MUST check out DeadSoul Tribe - 'A Murder of Crows'. It's on InsideOut records, although it's quite different from their other bands. Similar vibe to the heavy melancholy bands (Katatonia, Anathema) but with better musicianship...great stuff.

truthfully, i've been thinking about your question all day... and I can't really think of who to compare to them too... it's just good stuff... you might want to try the songs "White Days", "Jewel to Sparkle" or "Repeating, Repeating"

and correction to my previous post: the album was actually released in Feb 2003

I have "A Murder of Crows" and quite like it... and yes, you are quite right... it can fit into the term "heavy melancholy"... Devon's vocals are stunning

Cool, I will check them out.

As for "DeadSoul Tribe", I LOVE that record.
Have you heard the first album? I want to check it out, but have heard that it's QUITE different!??!

Hehe... Dead Soul Tribe's vocals were what made me hate them. Goddamn horrible cock rock vocals.

I downloaded The Juliana Theory, it's ok. Sounds sort of like a mixture of newer Incubus, new AFI, and HIM. Very very poppy. Some parts reminded me a bit of Tool and Rage Against the Machine. While it doesn't really sound exactly like anyone else, it's certainly not original. It's enjoyable though, but AFI's Sing the Sorrow is much better.
