The USA Vs. Europe thread got me curious. Those of you that use this particular word, is it a catch all for all people of a certain color, or do you use it more as a derogatory term for people who live a certain lifestyle?

I personally use it from time to time, but I do so selectively and for any skin color that subscribes to that "urban" lifestyle. IE it would apply to Eminem or <insert random professional athlete or rapper>, but not respectable men such as B.B. King or Michael Steele.

I've noticed more and more the word gets used in this context rather than a racial slur.

Thoughts?

Pretty much this.

I label this the Chris Rock definition.

Yeah, the rule of thumb is "nigga" is more acceptable when said, but "my pals" is a bit more raunchy. black people call each other nigga all the time, and white people love to see it because we want to be black. it's just another word like "gay" nowadays

The word bears no meaning to me and imo people should get over it and stop talking about how to appropriately use it.

Btw, Michael Steele is a world class douchebag, and how many illegitimate children does B.B. King have? wtf

Okay, BB King and Michael Steele are terrible, terrible people. That's beside the point and the #1 thing that kills internet discussion is needless sidetracking that doesn't happen in real life because people (generally) have more respect for the person in front of them as to not continue down a line of conversation that is clearly irrelevant.

See what I did there?
