The News Thread

I also heard they're heavily recruiting from Asia now too.

Not so surprising given that Al-Qaeda affiliates like Jamaa Islamiyah have been busy there for a while.

It's funny how few people seem to be aware that the largest Muslim country is Indonesia.

No one cares about Indonesia because it isn't sitting on a bunch of oil.

Not as much of a controversial position as many imply, oil is pretty important.

But actually Australia cares about Indonesia for almost as selfish reasons as America does when it comes to oil, because we're so close to Indonesia that naturally we'll experience spill-over when anything ridiculous happens there.

Classic fear-mongering. European nationals commit terrorism in Europe and now people have more of a reason to be afraid of refugees? Cause and effect doesn't seem to work in peoples' brains.

1. These "European nationals" were ARAB and MUSLIM.

2. They or their parents could have been refugees or economic migrants from a previous wave.

3. A real passport would have meant some Syrians are terrorists are in the EU.

4. A fake passport means terrorists can pretend to be Syrian refugees to enter the EU.

5. One should not be lax in either case.

6. I can't believe that simple logic escaped you oh wait you're a liberal dumbass.

Shocking. Idiocy from the biggest dumbass on the board.

1. I don't think you want to follow through on that line of reasoning. There's been plenty of White American Christian terrorism. By your reasoning, we should ban Europeans and Christians from immigrating as well. Look at what people of the same race/ religion have done!

2. "Could have been..." Great justification for banning an entire heterogenous group from immigrating. That has worked great in the past! See: US banning European Jews escaping Europe because they could be spies or the US imprisoning Japanese Americans because they could be spies. The US has apologized for both actions, acknowledging that they contradict the basic principles of this nation. Why repeat the same mistake? So that we can apologize again in 50 years?

3-4 are irrelevant to the issue in the US as our refugee immigration process is totally different and far more rigorous than the EU's.

5. Of course not, but our screening process is very stringent and evidence suggests it is highly successful as not a single refugee has been arrested on terrorism charges since 9-11.

There are solid cultural reasons to be anti Arabic refugees and immigrants which have nothing to do with terrorism concerns. The same goes for immigrants from a significant number of countries. Ironically, the danger is greatest in the long run for progressives, who are most happy to torpedo the long run success of progressivism for short term political and personal piety gains. Europe and the US do not have magic dirt. Importing people of illiberal cultures is damaging to the success of liberalism.
