Very good tool for a very decent price! I can definitely see this (or its follow-ups) becoming a studiostaple. Tuning with this just looks like a breeze!

Bought one of these things for my brother. He seems to like it a lot. I'm not a drummer and I definately can't tune a kit for the life of me, but he says even I could tune his easily with this thing.

Tension-Watch is perfect for tuning drums in studio or on stage.
But some points should be cleared :
- First, you can't properly tune a drum if one of the "cerclage" (in french) circle is not flat.
- Second, the bevel should be cleaner as possible.
If this OK, then the tuning could be done properly.
If you are using a drum tuner like the Tension Watch, you should know that it doesn't work like a guitar tuner.
With the TW, you will turn the screws until you have the correct value. (you should screw by using "cross screwing" - "serrage en croix" in french).
But the correct value is not hold as soon as you are turning other screws.
In my opinion, the drumhead is never well stretched the first time you screw the circle.
So you need to hit a litlle the circle near the screw (to hit a little mean that you hit gently), until the value on the TW is fixed.
Obviously, you always need the "crack" the drumhead.
I think all drummer wich have discovered Tension Watch at my studio have one now. It's very useful on stage while you have not a lot of time between shows and where silence is not easy to found.
It's useful too when you can't tune a drum.......because by using the TW and a new drumhead, if you can't tune the drum correctly, you are sure that the circle or the bevel or the "trunk" are damaged.

Finally snagged myself one of these, had a quick go on a troublesome floor tom of mine (top bearing edge has a dip in it amking it a bitch to tune) and it seems pretty cool, though the suggested settings seem a bit high to me, particularly on the reso side. Gonna give it another go with one of my rack toms in the next couple of days.
Hows everyone getting on with theirs? I know Lasse is a big fan. Are you guys finding that you have to tune a bit lower than the suggested settings too?

I haven't messed with it enough on drums to recommend anything. But it does a REAL good job on the snare I have.
I really need to snag a studio kit eventually.

Yeah I definitely tune a bit lower than the recommended settings.... on the 16" floor tom they recommend about 113Hz at the lugs, I end up at about 105-110, and I have the best luck with my particular drum with the bottom head tuned the exact same pitch. The higher toms I'm usually about 10 Hz below their recommendations with the bottom heads tuned a minor third above the tops. It takes a bit of experimenting, but once you get it, dear god. I'm still LOVING mine.... It REALLY helps with keeping a drum tuned the same throughout a session, as the heads will drop significantly throughout the process.... Keep playing, and try different top/ bottom combos and tightnesses. You'll find the right settings, and then have them forever....

I grabbed one several weeks ago. My tech and I were having a great time working on 2 albums worth of drums with it. Awesome unit, helps recreate the sound on day 1 just about exactly. It's not perfect and the readings can be erratic, but it's enough to be usable.
