hell! ain't a bad place! Hell is from here to eternity!
Eddie is just a great mascotte :p you can compare it with the 'Angel of Sorrow', but very much more known en notorious. And it's not Eddie that made Maiden popular, but Margaret Thatcher... (the iron lady)

"Blackacidevil", it's released in 1996. You can classify it as 'Technometal'. Doesn't sound eh! Now I guess other things of him are good, but certainly not this one... Not because it's too expirimental, because mostly I like that, but just because it's done in a very bad way...

agreed.

Can someone tell me what Maiden have to offer? I have every maiden release but after "seventh son..." they just couldn't make a very good album (yes, there are a few nice songs but nothing compared to the past). I waited for the release of Brave New World to see if that was any good... It far less than good. I don't trust magazines a lot but the review on terrorizer was right and most importantly fair (thgey gave it a 6 or a 5 I think). Dickinson's last two albums (accident of birth & the chemical wedding) were great.... Why the hell did he have to go back? When will the bands start realizing that they should stop at a point? Yes, money are great but you don't have to fuck your name just to make more meaningless albums just to ger more and more rich. Tons of bands are doing that, not only Maiden (judas priest are another very good example). How the hell can you compare Prowler with The Wicker Man or Hallowed Be Thy name with Blood Brothers?!?!?!?!? Maiden = '80 decade. That is when they ruled and offered so much to metal and music in general.

And don't forget that I like you all despite our differences... what are friends for if not for arguing! We can't all share the same opinion, right?

We don't have to use offending terms... let's just say they should close down the shop soon....

absolutley sol...once you get past your teenage years maiden are just a nostalgia trip, fun to listen to and remember when ye thought they were the greatest band EVER

even back in the eighties they were faintly ridiculous with exploding monsters and songs about dogfighting but at least they released decent albums back then unlike the stuff they put out now. Nowadys they're just all round embarrasing

Yep. I think i'm gonna listen to iron maiden and killers now...

*remembers great days of the past and prays for the end to come*

and i abhore Rap and Reggae and the cheesiest of all musics:Greek neo-folk-table danced-dehumanising-belly dancing-bouzouki vomit-doggie crap:D :D :D

Back to the topic at last. I really like that description of modern Greek music. We call them with songs "skyladika"(dog songs), cause most of those singers are absolutely horrible...

Because Katatonia mentioned the wonder that is (was) Nick Drake as an inspiration, I discovered the whole singer/songwriter-thing in the recent months: Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, Will Oldham, Mark Lanegan, even Joni Mitchell if I'm in the mood for some Hippie-tunes. Although I despise Country, I really like the last Johnny Cash album (Solitary Man). It's more dark american folk than Country, just check out the Nick Cave cover (The Mercy Seat).

Talking about singer-songwriters: what about Neil Young, Zappa, Van Morrison, ...
Especially Neil Young! He's great. Keep on rockin' in the free world! padadamdamdamdam :headbang: But he has even better stuff!

Don't know about Zappa or Van Morrison, but Neil Young is great. I particularly love the Dead Man soundtrack. Very... well, strange. But great. :)

as far as around-folk-rock songwriters go, Joni Mitchell is up there with Nick Drake for me, glad to see her mentioned.

Zappa was quite good with the original Mothers, in the 60's... after that, too much expressionless noodling and pretense. i blame him for spawning all those obnoxious steve vais!

what else... anyone loves the late Talk Talk music? Mark Hollis?

Van Morrison is doing quite easy stuff, pretty typical, and that makes him pretty unique. He did some stuff too with the chieftains! (guess dunc likes them? ;) )
