OK so I finally got round to hearing this. On half a listen, all I can say is "amazing". There is no doubt that all the orchestra/world instruments etc IMPROVE the songs. [Point being, I like this one more than the new one].

The vocals are less -core and more death I find. Actually, there are moments where the vocalist sounds like Paul Kuhr from Novembers Doom.

Now I've only heard the first half because it's a pretty exhausting listen, but I can't wait to get through the rest of this. Digging it oh yes.

They certainly give Isis a run for their money.

Good you should post this thread now 'cause I'm seeing them live in 35 minutes. Awesome 1st pair of albums ("FluXion"/"Aeolian") which spawn so many promises for times ahead.

Dev will tell you they are one the best live bands around these days. Actually a snapshot of his pants after last sunday's show should be proof enough.

7 on stage (at least) with congas , 2 singers , artificial extra guitars from PC for the heaviest possible sound and a OMG light show which the band have been elaborating for several years. Real professionals I tell you.

This album is amazing , they play the best songs from it live a.k.a Nazca , The Human Stain (3 members doing the conga section in gorgrous red lights) , Isla del Sol and The Greatest Bane . I'd like to add that it does not sound like Isis or any core- related band AT ALL (check Aeolian yo) . Just unique, Ellestin did an interview where the guitarist says they're maximalists while Isis are minimalists and this is true. Plus , they are far more Metal sounding than Isis or Neurosis. Anyone who sees them live will understand. No US tour for the moment unfortunately but check THIS :

The vocals really remind me of November's Doom for some reason.

I didn't even listen to this CD one full time. At some point in the future, I'll probably do so. But I'm not looking forward to it.

Woah, I have to imagine you caught it on a bad day or something, but I tend to agree with everyone else in the thread. This is incredible. It's like early-Orphaned Land meets Isis or something.

The band also worship Meshuggah I think, but apart from a few songs like "Killing the Flies" it's hard to detect a direct impact.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, but I still don't hear anything exceptional. It doesn't touch Isis. Orphaned Land--maybe, but that doesn't do much for me either. It's a good album, and worth owning, but I'd still say it just reaches a 7/10.

Best. live. show. ever.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The venue was outrageously small, stage and pit included barely bigger than my bedroom, and I was seriously anticipating some sort of disappointment. Bloody shit was I wrong!
These guys will adapt to any circumstance, both lead guitarist Robin Staps and the other guitarist had to play right into the pit at finger's length from me and they put up a hell of a fight with us (the semi-dozen rabid fans banging along while the rest of the attendance were watching the carnage mouths agape a few steps back).
Main singer Meta was sickly and in bed so the little guy at the PC took up the vocals but it wasn't long before four of us starting growling along at every occasion and I ended up taking up the mic for the chorus of "Killing the Flies" and the whole second half of "Queen of the Food Chain", even though I could barely recall half of the lyricx - OMFG it was so fucking intense, I could never have imagined experiencing something as exhilarating and fucking orgasmic, NEVER EVER!!!
At the end of the latter song we all ended up on a heap on top of Robin who was clutching his guitar for dear life, unable to reach the chords anymore , I think I even clawed his buttocks in n attempt to steady myself

I'm positive there were pics taken, I'll try to get hold of them. Right now I'm deaf, sweating like a walrus in a sauna and trembling like Muhammad Ali.

I'm not that harsh, but I agree that this is not in the same territory as Isis, despite some undeniably awesome moments. I think they should use the vocals more sparingly, which have a way of killing the atmosphere IMO.

I haven't given them a serious enough listen to comment with any real insight. However, I recall not being at all intrigued. Perhaps I'll spin it up tonight before I hit the hay.

I didn't dig it at all. These guys arent even fit to polish the sneakers from the Isis guys.
