My biggest hope for the new CD: that it's in my hands.

Anyway, if there was a nice balance between grand keyboards and the punchy guitars, that would RULE. A combination of DWoT and V would be the shit. NO growl vocals, Russ' singing is awesome as it is, especially when he sings more aggressively. I'm not knocking growlers, just saying Russ kicks ass as he is. They probably won't have a long epic ala Divine Wings, but something like Rediscovery I and II would be awesome. And, of course, if Mike Lepond's bass thunders out of my speakers and blows me back into the wall, I shall be thoroughly rocked!

As for the art, something depicting each band member as an angel soaring into battle with spears and axes, etc. will be most rocking. Hehe, on second thought, no.

As for the album: I hope there's a lot of focus on each song with such a vast amount of time to work on it. I'm hoping it's very clean, but doesn't sound closed like The Odyssey did at times. And I hope the guitars aren't all like HI I'M HERE AND YOU HEAR ME and the keyboards are all like HI I'M SORT OF HERE BUT YOU CAN'T HEAR ME

I love the overall atmospheric sound on V, I'd love for PL to have more keys and a less dominant guitar. For the rythm section, groovy bass lines and real sounding drums, like V.

But screw my opinion cause I'm not MJR, if he would even take my advice it would sound like a clone of V (which would be major suck). I just want him to do whatever the fuck he wants to do, so it's like a surprise when it comes out.

I imagine there'd be some kind of way MJR could pull it off without sounding like a clone. At least I hope so, because that would be THE best album ever!

What I would really like to see in the new album is more of a collaborative approach to the songwriting. I can't really fault the previous material cos its really quite perfect, BUT if pinella could take more of a rudess approach (Ie: actually come alive once in a while OTHER than in solos) then that'd be awesome. It seems to me like everyone apart from mjr and russell is willing just to sit back and play in the background.

I don't want them to turn into DT but I do like the fact that everyone in DT gets a go, and its not just guitar all the time.

I just went looking for it and there are a few themes .

Symphony X should do a cover of gilgamesh's theme from final fantasy and whack that on the end of the album .

I am still hopeful they include a cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene on one of their albums.

But with more Synth Pads and spacy/trippy stuff going on behind the heavy, driving guitars, instead of wacky keyboard lines, like some of Rudess' patches.

Hey, one literal way to deal with the balance of keyboards and guitars would be to have two "mini" epics. Maybe one at the beginning, and one at the end. The first would be written by MJR, and be one of the most awesome epic guitar driven pieces ever put on CD. He could represent one "side" in the battle, hehe. Michael Pinnella would be the other "side" and write a glorious, orchestrated piece for keys.
