The Official: Pre-Party needs to be all ages rant thread.

While I feel for the folks not old enough to attend, I generally avoid all-ages shows like the plague.

I'm with you 110% on that. The old people generally get confined to one area to enjoy their alcohol. I WILL go to an all ages show if I want to see the band(s) bad enough, but that doesn't happen too often........

I'd just like to point out that Shane and Glenn, to the best of my knowledge, have no control *whatsoever* over this. If you want to complain, write my Congressperson. I could be wrong, but I think we're talking city and/or state laws here, so bitching here is a little on the pointless side and lashing out at people who choose to drink alcohol like it's their fault is even moreso.

I'm sorry you guys can't go. I felt the same pain many times when I was younger.

Shaye

What are the laws? I'm really in the dark here. The Masquerade has alcohol and has no age restrictions whatsoever, that's the only place I know in Atlanta.

they have to have a restaurant's license to have it at least 18+. not sure what they have to have to be all ages. and the masquerade is only all ages for certain shows. i think the only way it can be all ages at a place like that is the event. regular nights with no concert events, they're 18+ i think. and some shows i've seen there have been 18+, especially downstairs in hell

Holy crap...

For goddsakes...it's not the promoters that making the rules...it's the alcohol commission (whatever they call it in Georgia), the city, the venue, the insurance company, etc., etc....making the rules...for the venue, the bar, the club, your local pool hall, bowling alley, etc., etc. Glenn and Shane have to jive with whatever guidelines are presented to them...or else (outrageous fees, fines, penalties, permits, arrest warrants, etc.)...

As much as I would willingly jump on a soap box saying, "Fuck city hall!"...just deal with it...

We've all been shut out of shows during our formative years...and yes...it totally sucked...but don't bring your disrespect into Glenn's house whining about it...

Don't wanna miss Dreamscape...? Where were you last year...?

Man...sometimes I think this forum needs an enema...!

Rock on!

Oh, have I been there. I missed one of Savatage's last shows before Criss was killed, by only a few weeks, because I was 17 and they were at an 18+ show.

I can't even kick *myself* about that.

I was just talking about the "Heaven" section, where they have the metal concerts.......I guess it could be by event. As far as I know all of their concerts in that area are all ages. The club area downstairs is 18+, though.

King Crimson is one of the three bands with "King" in the name that I don't know much at all about, but Robert Fripp bears an amazing resemblance to Gene Hackman....

Most shows and clubs here in NC (that i have been to) are all ages and they are not limited to any area. I think it would be great for all involved if it were like that everywhere, but it is what it is. Depending on who and where it is a city, county, state and sometimes a club imposed issue.

I remember one time up here I went to go see a Measly AC/DC tribute band and they wouldnt let me in cause I forgot my ID ... I begged and pleaded and told them I was 23 and I wasnt even going to drink anyway but they were all like No ID No entry I told them to Fuck Off and never went back to their retarded club

Yeah, I'm seventeen... one month after Prog Power I'll be eighteen. I bought a Nightwish ticket so I'd have something to do while the Pre-party was going on but now I'm just missing out on everything. Rusty was going to be at the pre-party too. Ah well, what can I say. Yeah, age limit sucks but there's nothing you can do about it... (Unless it's house of blues, then you get someone's ID who looks REMOTELY similar and walk in to see Steve Vai  )

Hey, urinalcakemix, at least you get to meet the guys the night after at ProgPower...

I've been through that... My words for ya? I'm sorry, but... deal with it =\

There's nothing really you can do about it.... *Sighs for missing Magistral at PP3's pre party...*

Edit : And yes... If you really wanted to see Dreamscape, you should have tried to make it to the show last year...

I'll be 18 in time for ProgPower, but won't be able to go to the preparty. Let it be known that if technology to trade ages existed, I'd trade being 18 with one of you younger guys.

I did try to make it down last year, but life reared its ugly head and prevented it.

As long as I get a Dreamscape T-Shirt or some kind of Swag at PP I guess I'll be happy
