Nice work Marco! Crazy nice pics :D

Thanks dude!
always pains me to see 5 nice photos out of I don't know how many hundred shots though, I'm having way too much dead weight whenever I'm home again

you already been taking out the canon on a trip?

So here's some shots of the last 2 months or so, been going out and shooting a bit more this fall

Damn, i really like this picture. What lens is this picture taken with?

Thinkin about picking up a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 for my 6D... I hear it's tough to get a good one that doesn't have focus issues, but I much prefer its bokeh and build to the Canon f/1.4, so I'll just make sure to buy it new, so I can send it back for a different one if the first has issues... Still kinda on the fence, though. I've heard bad things about both the Canon and the Sigma, so it's hard to really choose one or the other. Many seem to agree the Sigma is superior, when you get one that works, but that the Canon is also the sharpest of the two. Hmm...

Aside from that, I really need a telephoto (right now, all I have is the Canon 50mm 1.8 and I'm tired of having such a small range, so I figured I'd buy myself a Christmas present :p ). Debating between the Canon 70-200mm f/4L (non-IS) or the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX. Leaning toward the Sigma, just because I'd rather have the faster lens, and the image stabilization, but I'm not sure if it will compete with the optics of the Canon... It'd $300 more, but definitely worth it, if its optics are comparable. Anyone used either?

Another I'm considering is the Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS or the new Sigma 24-105mm f/4, either would be a great all-purpose lens for walking around, but I think I'd rather have 95mm extra reach, rather than 56mm in the other direction. I don't take many pictures that require me to be quite that close to a subject, or need such a wide shot. I think I'd rather go with a prime for that purpose either way, though.

What do you guys think?

Anyone know if its issues can be solved with the Sigma USB dock or do the issues need to be fixed internally by Sigma?
Only the new Sigmas of the A(rt), C(ontemporary) or S(ports) line can use the USB dock for now. There's rumors it will be available for other Sigma lenses in the future (not for all though). The Canon f/1.4 is a lot of fun but the bokeh isn't as round and smooth as for example with my Sigma 17-70 C. Can't say anything about the Sigma 1,4.

I am also looking at the 70-200 lenses, and in pretty much all tests, reviews, and also user discussions, the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC was better than the Sigma. Its biggest problem is that it's not sharp at 2.8 apparently, which is pretty much a dealbreaker for me, because I could get the Canon f4 in that case. Personally I have decided that I'll get the Tamron with f/2.8 over the Canon with only f/4 (IS or non-IS).
Only problem is the Tamron is almost never in the used market

Yeah - Totally just realized that after I posted :p

Oh well, I live in Arizona, so their repair center is like 20 minutes from me. Should mean super quick turn around time.

Yeah, I've heard the same about the Tamron as well, but it's also 50% more expensive than the Sigma, and more than twice the price of the Canon. As much as I'd love to go for it, my budget is shot at $1000 on the Sigma :p

Really, the main concern I have is that the Sigma weighs almost twice as much as the Canon. I was really hoping to use it as my go-to lens on outings (hiking/4-wheeling/camping/vacations/etc.), but the weight/size might be an issue, especially hiking when I don't want that extra weight :p That's why I was considering the 24-105mm lenses, as they're much more compact... but I can't overlook that extra reach. I know 105mm will be enough for most circumstances, but I also like to take pictures of wildlife as well, and the extra reach/faster lens would definitely be preferable there. Hmm...

Ended up grabbing a 70-200mm f/4L for super cheap. Figured I'd give it a shot at the price, I'm sure the optics will be enough for me, just not sure it'll be fast enough, but I can likely resell it for a good bit more if it doesn't work ut, so its worth the risk!

Just pulled the trigger on a Sony A7... it should arrive Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to shooting all of my vintage manual glass with it. I tried it out in the store & the EVF if the best I've ever seen in a still camera. Punch focus, focus peaking, built in level... it's exactly what I need.

The store didn't have a "body only" model & I'm not a fan of the kit lens.. so I wait a day or two :)

Looking forward to shooting my Nikons, Takumars, Zeiss, Minolta, Konica, Helios, Mir, and Canon FD glass with it. (yeah, I'll admit, I spend WAAAY too much time on Ebay.) The Sony E Mount will take pretty much anything. It'll be such a joy to shoot full frame once again (I haven't since my film days.) .... no more mental gymnastics calculating "crop factor" every time I drop on a new lens.

FWIW, If anone's interested, I have Canon 50D and 60D shooting packages for sale, including batteries, memory cards, chargers and lenses. PM me if you want a great deal!

I'll be sure to post my first results here as soon as I can.

^I'll admit, the A7 does pique my interest, but I've owned a few mirrorless cameras with an EVF (my last, a Lumix GH1), and just couldn't get used to it. I ended up using it purely for video and used my Canon XSi for stills. Ended up selling both and got my 6D, much more happy with it than either!

PM'd ya on the packages. I've really been wanting to pick up a 60D as a second body, but the 50D would be cool too. Curious what you have! ;)

but I've owned a few mirrorless cameras with an EVF (my last, a Lumix GH1), )

I own 2 gh2's, and the EVF on the A7 is in a different class...that's one of the reasons I bought it. The EVF is like nothing I've ever seen... just freakin' gorgeous. ....Still waiting for my "Body Only" version to come into the shop.

Have fun with the A7, Glenn. Wish I could afford one.

All of them are with the Nex5 + Nikon 50mm Ai-s

Finding beautiful girls is easy. Convincing them to pose for you is another matter. It's hard in the beginning but once you've proven you can present people in a good light they are more willing to do it. In fact all of the girls in the last batch invited me to take photos :p

Great shots again Soundlurker, the only thing might be that the horizon in the last black and white shot is not 100% vertical (or it could be my headache and that i'm not wearing my contacts) ... very cool black and white btw.

How do you find your shooting locations? Do you just walk around and think "hmm, this would be a great location to do some killer portraits" or are you actively trying out different positions and angles.
