About the only sort of "frilly" place I think is cool off the top of my head would be Neuschwanstein Castle:

Wow, I've been to that place too and it's really beautiful. As far as I remember, it wasn't really frilly on the inside and the walk to get there was amazing, so was the view from top [a bridge over a very deep drop? I don't remember too clearly]. That town was quaint and nice as well and travelling in a really small train was quite a good experience.

Some old factories and trading halls are made to look like Byzantine forts/castles. I actually quite like the idea. It adds a little bit of interest to what would otherwise probably be very dull designs.

Seconded for Neuschwanstein, though it was covered in scaffolding when I went. I definitely vandalized the Mariensbrücke.

edit: it's waterproof eyeliner so it will wash off and is probably gone now.

That's certainly not how I envisioned a Japanese apartment block, despite being a small industrial town. And weird enough, I don't remember seeing a picture of Japan with a tree in it.

Haha well I live in subsidized government housing, most apartment blocks are way less shitty than that. I'm glad it's pink though, so I can refer to home as a pink love palace.

The view from the top was quite nice.

@ Krampus, is that actually your name?

EDIT : Now that's two places that we've both been at, at different times in our life
I went there 4 years back, what about you?

I hate you all who have managed to travel to nice places. I'm yet to go on my eurotrip, I'll probably do that at the end of my degree if I ever get enough money.

The last time I went somewhere really really nice was when I went to Egypt and Turkey some 11-12 years ago. Unfortunately, whilst I enjoyed myself I was too young to fully soak up the history of the place.

:yuk:

Even Saki isn't that good. It will get you fucked up, but so will a million other better tasting liquors.

Teriyaki sauce (or what passes for it in America) isn't bad, but I couldn't take it on a regular basis.

@Krampus: Porn and some historic religious intolerance isn't exactly what I would call "culture"

I actually really enjoy Sake. I think it tastes great.Plum wine on the other hand is atrocious .

I guess I'm not fixating too much on the architecture there, just the overall image. The reflections of the trees and the pagoda in the water, I like it. Reminds me of a scene from Kim Ki-duk's film Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, just with more subdued colors.
