The pics thread

I do not really see the appeal of tattoos. Seems like breaking social norms for the sake of doing so. I'll just stick to long hair.

Long hair actually shows distaste for social norms in a meaningful way. It's an act of indifference rather than defiance.

Well, what about a tattoo that signifies affiliation with an organization? People who serve in the military usually get tattoo's, and those are far from being an act of defiance.

Tattoo's have been around for like... twelve thousand years. Wtf are you referring too?

Tattoo's are almost as ancient as art itself, and has been recorded in mans earliest histories - the time frame I typed was merely an exaggeration (in all actuality, an under-exaggeration).

I don't even really understand why people do it for organizational affiliations. Do they not want to forget their participation? If was sufficiently meaningful, then they wouldn't need any reminders. It seems silly to do it to prove dedication to something as well.

I'd say about 95% of tattoos are meaningless. It's either done to be trendy or to be different the vast majority of the time.

I know tattoos have been around for a very, very long time, but they clearly don't have the ritual significance now that they used to in the distant past.

Generally agreed.

Don't you people know Cythraul by now?

I'll be honest, the first thing that popped into my head was "crystal meth?" The grain of salt thing came about 3 seconds later.

Anyway I completely agree with V5 and Seraphim Belial's posts (that I am too lazy to find and quote) on that tattoo thing.

 I was having a bit of a struggle finding a decent picture for the expression "take it with a grain of salt."

What kind of person makes blanket generalized judgments on someone else's non-harmful life choices? I mean, this seems like the epitome of rude, shallow and egotistical. I can't comprehend why anyone would ever take part in such a (here come the scary italics!) heinous and simplified way of passing narrow subjective verdicts on people!

Fear the failocaust, it's failing!

 I had a feeling I'd piss someone off. Can't say I was expecting that many angry quotes though.

I was really just looking for a debate, but this topic's probably too subjective and/or sensitive for that. If anyone would care to say why they actually would (or do) have a tattoo, feel free.
