The REAL football thread.

I'm disgusted. Chelsea should have won that, they had a couple of incredibly close misses in the second half. At least Ronaldo (WANKER) got taken down notch. Bitch missed his penalty, heh.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Soccer Championship games (esp the Worldcup) should not be decided by a shootout. I know the match could go on and on, but a true overtime goal should decide it. The NHL is doing it correct, save the shootouts for the regular season...but the playoff games and Stanley Cups are decided by a non-shootout decisive goal.

If hockey players can regularly play 2-3 grueling periods of overtime hockey, then I think soccer players should suck it up, they owe it to the fans as far as going for it all to win and not sitback and play for a shootout.

Hockeys player slide everywhere. On a smaller pitch.

Fucking hilarious day. loved it.
Anytime a chelsea fan said anything
"So how many trophies you got this season?"
"0"
"how many have spurs got?"
"1"
"There you go."

Get outta here, I did not know that.

...and on that smaller pitch, they get checked through the boards like every 10-seconds. Soccer takes stamina, but nothing like the punishment and stamina you endure in Hockey, especially in the playoffs.

My point is, championship matches in extra time would be more exciting especially if a golden goal (called this for a reason) decided the game. Look, I was just as happy as any other Italian when Italy won the World Cup. Yes, the shootout was intense, but not exciting and kinda after the fact.

I think teams and star players really going for the goal in extra time would simply display more skill, effort and excitement for the fans! Any sport is already at its most exciting-when in overtime. The anxiety, anticipation and fate of a championship deserves to be decided in the moment.
NHL has a shootout, but not in championships. NBA doesn't have a free-throw contest, NFL doesn't have a field goal contest, MLB doesn't have a homerun contest, why should soccer be any different?

Feel so sorry for John Terry, especially since he played well. A couple of inches to the left and that penalty would have changed the outcome of the game.

The game isnt as physical as it used to be, at all really. And, 40s shifts isn't entirely massive endurance, try running around for 45m bro.

Hockey is the max endurance sport. Maybe not as physical as it used to be, but still very physical. 40 shifts at a 100% effort every shift. Yes, you are continually going in soccer, but you and I know its not all-out all the time...there are ways to catch your breath in all sports.

I'm not going to get into the tougher grueling sport argument...its no contest in my eyes. Even if soccer takes more stamina, so be it? Its not the point.
I'm just stating how soccer and sports in general should and can be more exciting in overtime.
I could accept to a point, though would not like it (see my prev post) if regular season games in all sports had some sort of shootout, contest or whatever. Just not in a deciding championship game, let it play out!
