The REAL football thread.

Thats my point, a "golden goal"!
..."it was shit"??? How can a game winning goal in a playoff or a championship be called shit?
Make the point that they have to go to a shootout because players will eventually collapse right on the field, I understand this. I just think players tend not to go for it in extra time and settle for a shootout. Simply not the best way to decide it, and is not the best for the fans.

It's the only fair way to do it. Golden goal sucked. Silver goal sucked. It's now been accepted that using game deciding single goals in extra time isn't the way to settle a game. Shootouts are unfortunately the only way.

Edit: BTW. Joke

What does a chelsea player do after winning the champions league?

Turn off the playstation, and get dressed for his mums funeral.

I think Avram did a great job. He was always facing the impossible though, I think Pat Nevin summed up the situation well 'He could almost only fail. If he did well it was Mourinho's team; if he did badly he'd ruined Mourinho's team.'
He wasn't stealing Mourinho's tactics, he was using a system which the players knew and could do well with. People who claim he did nothing have no idea what he did before, after and in between matches, you can't judge a manager's motivational or tactical prowess from his demeaner on the sidelines during 90 minutes of football. He got them further than Mourinho ever did in Champion's league, took the title to the last day of the season with a squad that he hadn't built. Mourinho didn't win the league last season and I don't see people calling him a failure or crap. Avram built a solid foundation this season and could have gone one step further next season. But fickle fans care more about charisma than someone who could genuinely progress the club to it's potential.

There were a few more which I cant recall.

Any Juve fans here? watch your mob against mine (Melbourne Victory)?

Beat us 4-1 was a good display by both sides although clearly Juve were streaks ahead in talent and skill, we didn't do to badly although we did crack to the Juve pressure at about 80' and let in two very late goals.

Juve really put on a show like they promised, it was the best beautiful football, the Palladino goal was spectacular.

EDIT: although being a Melb Victory supporter loved watching Hernandez rocket one past Vanstratten, nothing our Juve boy could do about it.

Australia Vs Iraq WCQ

Scorers: Aus. H. Kewell 46'

Asia Group A

P W D L Pts

Australia
3 2 1 0 7

Qatar
2 1 0 1 3
China
2 0 2 0 2

Iraq
3 0 1 2 1

Was a very lucky affair for us last night both sides had their share of chances Iraq probably had the better outside of Kewell's goal he was superb best on the pitch by a mile really gave himself an awesome advert for another club after Liverpool

Nonetheless I'm very happy with how it's going one more win and we'll go to the next stage of qualifying

id love to see qatar go through. and im kinda surprised iraq isnt doing well, considering they won the asia cup last year

Yeah Iraq were quality last night it's a pity I don't think they can advance from here, we were quite lucky but thats the game

If the refs are anything like they were against us when we played China PR then China will be likely to be the other team to advance (I think two teams advance but I'm not sure) although they played shocking against us and were lucky to come out of it with a draw at home

As for Qatar we dominated them at home 3-0 but when they played Iraq over there they were superb looked a million bucks

So from here I just hope we can pick up another three points in our next two away matches rather than betting on beating China on home soil

Well have the Yanks begun qualifying yet if so how they going?

What? you don't even support the national team?

A lot of us support the team, we just suck so bad that... we don't watch or anything like that. If we get good we're all over it like white on rice, see whatever year it was that chick scored that goal and ripped her shirt off like ten years ago (were we even good back then or was it just big because she took her shirt off?), that was all over the place around here. We just suck so we don't pay attention.

Well from my perspective the yanks aren't half bad you've made the world cup last four times although once auto qualified done well in the finals in 02'

As for the mainstream media of coarse it's gonna be a prick if it's anything like it is here they have their heads (and investments) buried in the traditional national sports and probably wouldn't have any favor for it at all, more than likely labeling it "ethnic" or something crude like that
