Overall, I enjoy it and think it's a perfectly ok album with a few genuinely good tracks (as well as some pretty bad ones). I think this counts as "trendy" since they're pretty big these days.

me too, I didn't realize how trendy and popular The Mars Volta was until I saw them right after Frances the Mute came out. I went with a buddy who was a huge TMV fan... and we got right in the front... then when they came on stage the crowd flipped out and surged forward.... Good thing my buddy is 300+ lbs and I was pushed up against that instead of the rails.

I seriously do not like Mars Volta. I heard one of their songs the other day and swore that it was Gwen Stefani doing the vocals. These are the guys from "At the Drive-In" or some shit aye? Bah! If I want to hear a dude sing like a chick, I'll listen to Rush.
