The best thing about the drums on MAYH is how the cymbals overload the mic sometimes. For example, listen to the beginning of april ethereal, the sound breaks up when the cymbal hits. And yes, this is on the actual album, not just mp3 rips.

Haha, yeah, when he hits those crashes. But it could just be a bad compression job. When mics are overloaded they generally distort, don't they?

Well, in my experience they distort similar to that, it's sort of a brief crackle until the level goes back down. It might be a mixing error with the level exceeding the level the machine could handle too, i dunno. :E
