...and if were talking about metal in general and not just thrash, then i would say that im still a huge fan of Type O Negative, but they really struggle to make albums regulary enough (and they are old news these days anyway). Which is a pity IMO.

They [Nevermore] are pretty much the only band from the states doing someting special. Warrel Dane is possibly the best lyricist (one of few bands that i'll bother to read the lyrics) that metal has and Jeff Loomis is awesome.

what is remotly special about nevermore? care to fill me in?
good lyricist? mayhaps you should read more band´s lyrics...
and loomis??? sure, he comes up with some cool riffs, but playin diminished arpeggios disguised as solos for three records is definitly *not* awesome...

lmao poor range, are you retarded

Compared to Dane's, yes i think he has. Diamond just shrieks and whines. All top-end.

Your responses are so predictable its untrue. Poor frustrated little man. I have never seen you make a positive post about anything, all you do is slate everything about bands or peoples opinions and never actually say anything comprising praise. I have never seen you say that something is actually good. I suppose this is due to some insecurity of yours, that if you state that everything sucks, you cannot be criticised about anything. So its a safe bet that you will never have to defend yourself or be flamed.

I feel sorry for you, what a coward you are.

"it is teh suckfest, are you retrded rofl!!"

Yes. I find his lyrics very interesting, the man is clearly well read and his songs are often about intellectual topics compared to a lot of metal which is just about hatred / murder / blood and guts / dragons and wizards / zombies and other things of an absurd nature.
Loomis sounds awesome to me and that is all that matters, i do not care about the technical aspects of his soloing.

I am not a big fan of Nevermore (vocals, predictably) but I can't think of a current American metal band that I'd prefer. If you count Tool as a metal band I probably listen to them more.

LOL, King Diamond sounds like a demented witch....and pretty much sounds as if he has someone constantly pulling at his tiny gonads with a pair of pliers.

But i will admit the Andy LaRoque is a tremendous guitarist.

Two of the better reasons ro love King Diamond.
And they have good, cheesy horror lyrics. Not some pretentious bable about "indifference being thy name" 'n shit :p

and what's wrong with zombies?

From what I've heard of them, As I Lay Dying aren't terrible bad, ocassionally the lash out a nice melody to counter the generally heavier rougher side which seems to work, the vocals could do with being somewhat cleaner, but they're still young.

It seems to that most of the metal you're going to find coming out of the US at the moment tends to be either Metalcore or have least some hardcore influence. It's not a problem for me because I like some hardcore, however Metalcore tends to be a genre a I generally stay away from.

So, As I Lay Dying and Throwdown (I didn't used to like them but they're growing on me) but on the otherhand there is the likes of Hatebreed who aren't awful but are really just rehashing what Slayer did 20 years ago, albeit not as well, and considering my opinion of Slayer that's very difficult.

Nile are good, but they've been around a while and lets face it as much as I respect the brutality of their music and the fact that they seem to not give a fuck that people don't like it, they do become terribly boring after a while. Although for me, that assesment applies to just about every pure death metal band.

As I Lay Dying are not horrible, but their last album was terrible. They have not done anything new, and their songwriting is weak. However Unearth and God Forbid are definitely some of the only good metal-core bands around.
