The United Dictators Of Mars Smash Hits 811A.D. 2002 A.D.
The Mody Company 2001
By Russell Garwood
The United Dictators Of Mars is a two-man project comprising Jeffery Harris (vocals) and Tom Mody who is responsible for all other instruments. Of these, the programmed drums sound as if they originate from a Fisher-Price tape recorder and lack complexity, originality and any programming skill whatsoever. Moderately heavy guitars can be catchy at times and numerous solos are well executed, while the largely sung vox are good and often memorable, apart from some - nevertheless entertaining - squealed sections. There are also electronic elements which sound effective at times and cheap at others. The music itself is hard to categorize, although its probably nearest to comedy metal (at least I hope this release is firmly tongue in cheek).
Lyrics like No work, no school, no chores to do. Ah the life on easy street and Give out your hand to the miracle man, dance in the sand with the miracle man, kick out the jams with the miracle man, Im a fan of the miracle man, while original are not really my thing. Favourite tracks have to be Place In Time for the vocal melodies, and Last On Earth for the laughable drums. All in all this is an intriguing CD and its hard to tell where the band is coming from, but Ill await further work with interest. Definitely a good album if youre after confusion!
