The what's going on in Thrash thread

I thought it must have been released a while ago too but it appears we were given one or two singles very early and then the media just forgot about it. Metal Injection claimed it was released last week but I think it's around the 20th of this month from memory.

Can Scott still write good riffs?

I like the way he states that they started writing the album last year. All those comments from both him and Charlie 3 years ago about the new album being heavier and more brutal must have been about another album :)

Did Scott ever write good riffs? Charlie wrote most of their music and a lot of riffs were actually written by Lilker that were used on the next 2 albums too IIRC.

I'm pretty much done with all the legacy thrash bands. Most haven't put out anything great in 25 years.

The exception for me is "Endgame". I would've LOVED that one back in the 80s even when the thrash scene was pumping out a ton of high quality stuff.

Anthrax never really had a creative band leader. Ian is basically the image/figurehead of the band.

Faster and riffier sounds like an improvement, but I have no confidence that they will actually pull it off.

I think Stet was a great addition. Plate sucked. But I still think they should have gone a few levels above
Stet. Unger is actually not to bad and the only one I don’t really have a problem with. But with all respect ;) I think Rick fucking sucks. He just pulls off the old stuff ( so technically you are right ):p.. when he’s not fudging it and his solos on Damned if you do are a joke. Even the best of guys are not on par with the classic lineup imo.
Too harsh?

I really think it would be tough for ANYONE to replace Kirk Arrington. I used to wish Lars would get kicked out of Metallica so Kirk would replace him. Those drums on "Blessing in Disguise" are some of the best I've ever heard in metal: that tone, those patterns and fills ….

I don't have high hopes for the next Megadeth album.

Didn't enjoy the last Megadeth album. I know Kiko has chops, but some of the solos/licks he wrote are some of the worst I've heard on any Megadeth album.

I hate Dirk's drum tone although I know he has chops. He has that some old super-thin tone like most every modern drummer has. I'm not sure at what point the metal community all decided we like drums that sound like that. He has great chops. I don't think blast beats will help a Megadeth album, as I think you'd actually have to write riffs around them so it doesn't feel forced.

Dave has pleasantly surprised me before, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sure he did, although since Malcolm Young died Scott has been pretty vocal about how his dream was to be a rhythm guitarist rather than a lead guitarist so maybe he's a team player. Either way the team is not playing the game right now, they've done sweet FA as a band through out this pandemic and even their interviews don't seem to align with each other these days. It's time for both Scott and Charlie to STFU and put their music where their mouths are.

Nooooo don't kick Lars out, he might start another band and ruin two bands!!

Gotta have faith some where, some time.
I'm looking forward to the new Megadave album, I like Dystopia, I like post cancer live Megadave and I actually think there will be something good on this new album. I might have less faith about a band like Anthrax, but even with them I still hope they come up with something good rather than writing them off before I hear it.

Cowboy boots and banjos. This new Exodus album is going to be heavy as fuck!!! :)

Looks like they are filming everything too.

The legacy thrash bands are what get me by. I'll take them over new bands any day.

I agree, very hard to replace. And Kurdt has proven it impossible :)

I actually do have high hopes. They are due. I like Dystopia they just need to take it further which it sounds like they are. I'm not at all familiar with Dirks tone though. I also liked End game a lot.

You are working towards a slap around the chops with a six week old trout!
I agree not to give up on the legacy bands but there is some good new stuff out there.
Write off either at your own peril!!! :P
