The what's going on in Thrash thread

Fuck ME!!!
I left to do school drop off 3 hours ago, a trip that usually takes me about 15 mins door to door. This morning because of the rain and the flooding just getting to school took 30 mins. I then went to check on my parents, spent about an hour there, it took me 45 minutes to get home 35 minutes in traffic, 10 on the back roads and tracks that only locals know. I'm home 5 fucking minutes and the school rings to tell me they want kids picked up because they haven't got enough teachers to fill classrooms due to the numbers who couldn't make it. So I'm back in the car, back on the back roads and dirt tracks in the hope the waters aren't rising and that some fool hasn't given away the 'local' back roads secrets. I get the kids from schools on opposite sides of the road and back into traffic, and that trip takes me an hour door to door as well. Thank fuck this is only a once in a decade storm because I couldn't handle too many of them.
Dude. Nightmare! Shouldn't those teachers have called in saying they couldn't make it before you even left to bring the kids to school?

Getting Juan Urtgea (Andy Sneap Jr.) to produce it is not a good sign. No one really wants to hear Vio-lence with typewriter-sounding drums. This is a band who HAS to have an organic sounding production for it to work.

I will buy the EP though. If it sucks I won't buy any more from them.

I think it's great that Bobby could be writing songs for them. His style would fit the band really well on the mid-paced numbers at least. I kinda doubt he can keep up with their speed unless he's doing some serious woodshedding. Sean has to have improved over the years. The biggest x-factor in the whole thing is probably the drumming. I can see that being a let-down. Perry was pretty amazing back in the day and live although he sounds good these days he's not really doing fast double bass anymore. So he's always played cheat beats on the skank and then add to that very little double bass and the magic just may not be there anymore. But we'll see.

Not sure why they changed bassists. No word why this happened. All the sudden, ex-Fear Factory bassist was in their promo pics.

The problem with all of it is the time it's taken. It's nearly as bad as Megadeth but this is only 5 songs and we've already heard 2 of them (haven't we?). I want to give the guys every chance but they pop up in the news every few months and there really isn't any news, they always seem to be at the same point.

Yeah I think I managed to listen to three albums today. It's our eldest daughter's birthday today so we decided to go out late this afternoon, still using the back roads, to see the grand parents. Coming home in the dark tonight the highway and main roads are open but still moving very slow. Looks like we'll be able to get to school tomorrow because the water is receding quickly but they tell us more rain is coming. With luck the next 12-18 hours will see enough of a drop that this doesn't happen with the next down pour.
Happy Birthday!! :headbang:

Yeah I had thought about that being Jnr fighting back as well. Don't you think it's also weird there hasn't been any mention of auditions for a new bass player? I do.

I don't blame Jnr for fighting back and it's not like he hasn't burnt those bridges before. You're right the lack of mentioning auditions is a bit weird, their tour with LOG which I think they touted as the metal tour of the year, is due to start in a few months yet there is a slot open on the stage of the headliner.

I agree completely about Juan. I am not a big fan of his and I wish Testament would stop using him.

I don't either. At all. I hope he fires some more shots if that's what this is. Yeah it's really weird with that tour coming up and the album and just everything. Lol. "metal tour of the year" NOT. I saw the guitar player from LOG said it was a headbangers dream tour. No. It isn't. 3/4 of the bill can suck it. And so can 1/5...I mean 4th of Megadeth.

And one song is a cover.

Dude. Nightmare! Shouldn't those teachers have called in saying they couldn't make it before you even left to bring the kids to school?

The biggest issue was the road closures that took people by surprise. We don't know what gridlock is around here but feeder roads became main roads holding all the traffic. Many of the teachers actually got caught in the same traffic we did. The main roads in and out of town were stopped for up to three hours. The high school did send out a message saying that kids at school would be looked after but if parents who wanted to keep their kids at home could. It wasn't until about 90 mins later they started ringing parents and telling them and by that time it was more about traffic that it was about weather. The primary school was less prepared but they also had most of their teachers on site.

The really fucking annoying thing is that I'm looking at the roads corporation website for traffic issues and road closures and while the weather mob are telling us the waters have gone down and many of the houses that got inundated are free to return home the roads corp are saying nothing. They are still listing all roads as closed including the roads we came through last night.

Yes, but I imagine they only need to give a new bassist a few days before their first show, the way Shawn Drover and Jimmy DeGrasso were introduced to the band.

They don't even need a new permanent bassist at this point, just a guy for the tour, the way James MacDonough just toured with them.

It's nothing compared to Dark Angel's delay. We at least have evidence that it is close to done, if not in the can already. The clip didn't do much for me and it's not enough music for me to judge but the tone of the instruments was off-putting to me.

I expect less out of Dark Angel and Vio-lence than I do Megadeth, as least as far as consistency of activity, because those are hobby bands and not a full-time job for the guys in them.

I think Dave needs to get on with it, out with the old in with the new, if he wants any chance to slow this down. The band is already going to be hampered by people who wont forget what Jnr did, from a brand name perspective Dave needs to make his news out weigh everything the people and the media are saying about Jnr. It's not easy but good promo even in the light of this is possible and for Dave it starts with a permanent replacement and a hard and fast media push. The replacement doesn't even have to be a known player, it just has to be a major push. I know people wont forget and there will still be associations with Jnr made but Dave is the person who can control how much they effect the Megadeth brand and right now he's doing a shit job.

But DA's delay is different. They aren't in the media week in week out sprouting the new album that then became a EP that then became an EP with a shitty cover. DA's delay sucks but it's not like they have been constantly promising everything and delivering nothing. Vio-lence's problem is that they started a big media campaign well before they were ready, covid no doubt stuffed them up a bit but at the same time they were dragging their heels well before covid. DA weren't even dragging their heels, they were doing almost nothing. Exhorder did almost the same thing, they hit the media hard too early, peaked before they were ready then the album was delayed longer than it needed to be. But the difference with them is they actually wrote an entire album, it might not have been as good as their early stuff but it was at least an album and within a reasonable time frame.

Ok I'll let the teachers off the hook. This time! But that road corp website.
