The what's going on in Thrash thread

Well, it is a comeback to releasing new songs after nearly 3 decades.

I like everyone would prefer a full album but sometimes the choice is EP or nothing. These guys have wives, kids, lawns to maintain, and real jobs that pay actual money now. A lot of those thrash musicians back in the day were living with mom and dad.

Truthfully, I think the metal scene in general doesn't even buy EPs. They barely buy music at all anyway, but EPs even less.
So? What does that have to do with milking this? They've had a couple years now. All these bands have wives and kids and a lot of them regular jobs. They still put out albums on a consistent basis. Phil's been doing all sorts of shit. And not letting Bobby G contribute because he has SO many ideas he needs to get out after leaving Machinehead. Yet. All he can manage is an ep that's in the making for a very long time. If he'd let Bobby write they could have had a whole album.
And if they can't manage a whole album after all this time. How much gas do they really have in the tank?

You know. You say a lot about metalheads like you're speaking for everyone. I buy music. always have always will. Many bands have sighted metal fans as being people who like to buy music and like to have the physical product in their hands because they are so devoted.
I can't even think of a band I like that has even put out an ep since the 90's. Maybe that's why no one is buying them.

I can't help but think Phil saw jumping on the 'comeback bandwagon' as a good idea but failed to make the transition and has been struggling to re-create what he once had. I've seen plenty of comments in support of this project but most seem to be calling for a return to the Vio-lence we all knew 30 odd years ago. With bands like Sacred Reich and Exhorder not quite finding their old legs I wonder if Phil's realised he just hasn't got enough there to please the die hard fans.

In this country people don't buy many EP's because our stupid fucking record shops want $15-20 for a 5 track EP. If I really want an EP I'll wait until I'm putting in a o/s order with free postage and only pay $8-10 for it. But then our industry is fucked anyway because although they claim vinyl sales are going up I can't see how they hell they are when they are charging $50 and upwards for any vinyl. Given the world wide shortage in vinyl which is now hitting the industry I can't wait to see how this country reacts, I bet LP's go up even more. I'm going to buy a walkman!

Yeah I think that might well be close to what's going on with them. I also think that Phil possibly has an ego that just won't let there be anything but his stuff. It's not even coming out til next year now and it's still going to be an EP.

Holy shit man. That's more or as much as full albums. I wouldn't buy it for that either. Well unless it was like Testament or
Flotsam. Sorry Metal Church :p.

So the not surprising but still bullshit news is in. I seriously feel so bad for Jnr. And this album got way less interesting for me. Unless they really got someone insane. But I'll still miss Jnr's tone. He and Greggy can't be beat.

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/d...n-will-not-appear-on-upcoming-megadeth-album/

Yeah I'm quickly getting over this album. It's going to want to be good or I wont bother with it. I also don't know where all the support is coming from, as Dave calls it, pretty much every site I've seen Megadeth mentioned on lately has undeniable support for Jnr. People were predicting that if Jnr remained in the band they would see banners and all about wankers at every show. I hope those banners still turn up but now say "Mustaine is the wanker!"

Speaking of looking like three tons of shit squished into a 6 foot pile (okay I know we weren't but I needed a segue)

He looks terrible!

Yup I’m already over it lol. I was really looking forward to a Megadeth album. Not another Mustaine album. It’s just never the same without Jnr, with the possible exception of TSHF. I really wanted to hear a band that had gelled together.
Well if TempleOfBlood if right and people don’t know who is in the bands then we should still get the wank off signs, and I’ll be happy as hell to be wrong!

Yeah he doesn’t look so great.

We've always known Mustaine has double standards but he's really taken them to new levels now. I don't know that these actions will change the music that much but at the end of the day I'm getting to the point of not caring, very similar to the way I feel about Anthrax.

I wonder if Mustaine will have people kicked out of gigs if they have wank signs. That should be fun :)

Massive double standards. Yeah he hasn’t said if the bass parts are all new or if they are using the originals have they? I guess it depends if Dave hummed all the bass parts to Jnr or not lol. To me and I’m sure many others
Jnr ads that missing element that can’t be duplicated. He worked on those parts for years with the band at this point. I have to think that makes a difference.
Here’s a question. Do you think Our Steve would leave Testament for Megadeth? I’m sure he can handle a pick.

Oh I forgot. I don’t know what support Dave is talking about either. Probably just the label and a few ass kissers.

Yeah I question the same thing. I'd like to be pointed to a forum, online chat, anything where the fans have called for what's happening.

Given Jnr was a hired gun (as we'd heard so many times) I wonder if Megadeth have to pay him out.

Wiki is reporting that the new album (slotted for 2021) is called The Sick, The Dying and the Dead, did we know that? I don't remember a name being thrown out there.

Looks like Dave needs a Gary moment himself. Fucking hocking beer for Father’s Day. So lame.

I'm kind of hoping Jnr forced his hand and has made him replace all the bass parts.
I also hope his comments about the new bass player are empty and no one has been chosen yet, but I'm sure money talks in this situation.
I'd like to think Testament is too much of a good gig for Steve. Maybe Megadeth could pay more but there is more to life than just money. I guess it also comes down to what Mustaine is promising. Their tour starts in August, I'm not sure when Testament first start doing shows but if Dave's only promising to redo the bass parts and one tour then review any contracts I guess it could fit well for Steve.

Dave said he joked about that title. I hadn’t heard it was actually set.

I feel like Jnr probably sold his soul to Mustaine when he came back. I bet they don’t have to pay him shit. Or maybe Jnr was due for a pay increase lol.
You know, this is like negotiating with a terrorist. Jnr got taped without his knowledge and then somehow someone who is angry with the band and has gone after other members got to be friends with the woman who recorded it. Put it out there to get Jnr and sounds like the band. And Mustaine gave it to them by firing him and getting rid of his bass tracks. Evil intent successful! Revenge had! Bad guy wins.
Maybe they are blackmailing Mustaine cause they have worse on him…:p:saint::devil:

That’s a thought. I would feel a little better if Jnr did somehow do that.
