The what's going on in Thrash thread

I've just finished listening to Devolution Series 2 - Galactic Quarantine. Apparently it's the stuff Dev was supposed to play live in the UK before covid, it's a collection of older, heavier shit from Dev and SYL as well as some newer heavy shit done live in quarantine. Not sure when my copy is going to arrive but I've ordered it for the Blu Ray.
Sweet!

Sounds good to me so far!

I think it's one of those 'lucky' finds in my collection that I wouldn't have if I picked up other albums by the same band first.
To be fair I'm not expecting anything new from them to be as good as Violent by Nature, but I'd still like to hear what they come up with.

For sure. Nice find. Well I suppose we have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Some bands can really pull it.

Yeah I agree a lot of filler. Like aimless jams almost.

. That's messed up.

One of my main complaints about thrash are songs that overstay their welcome. For me the ideal song length is 3 to 5 minutes. Metallica, Overkill and Exodus are all guilty of writing songs that end up being extended jams with repeated verses, choruses, and bridges that are unnecessary.

Yeah I can understand that point of view. You wanna keep that energy going. Like say DNR. Personally I like longer songs also. Something to kinda get lost in. But not if like you say they are just repeating choruses and things like that. It's gotta be interesting. But I guess what I really like is a good mix.

I'm not hugely knowledgeable about their old stuff. By that I mean I've listened to them back in day but they weren't a band I followed. I didn't really like that new cover that much. I liked what I heard in the snippets of their new teaser and I'd like to hear their new stuff. That being after all this time I think they'd be better off getting a classics" tour out of the way first like Testament did. I think you're right that that is what people probably want to hear.

You didn't have to follow them, after the second album they went no where :tickled:

For me I was more into bands like Forbidden and Exhorder than Vio-lence but Vio-lence do deserve some credit for their first two albums and the influence they had on thrash.

I can see that but to me "Architect of Pain" is one of the best thrash songs ever written.

To me, most old Metallica songs didn't have any filler (until you get to some songs on AJFA).
