The what's going on in Thrash thread

I just listened to the new one. Can't hear much but the drums and some guitar. I don't wanna pass judgment yet. But I agree from what I could make out I wasn't' blown away.

Yeah it seems like an odd way to release it. I know songs often get played live first, but holy shit with technology the way it is these days don't trust someone with a phone camera to give the world something you've been promising forever.

Could we get some studio trickery please? Vibrato is not Dave;s friend.
What's with the nerdy hipster glasses everyone is wearing these days?

It definitely needs something but hopefully it is only one line out of a thousand other good ones.

I've noticed a huge increase in those glasses too. No idea why people are wearing them as opposed to something else. Maybe its the cool new fashion accessory and we didn't get the memo.

Yeah, he came across really well. Given it's listed as outtakes I'm guessing the full video is around somewhere, probably on the kids channel, but I haven't looked.

Yeah I want to hear something from the studio, it sounds like it could have potential but not that recording. Still we might get a chance to hear something soon.

Speaking of hearing something from the studio with potential. After reading about Mike's effort with Kurdt's band Hall Aflame, which Kurdt started when he needed a break from Metal Church I really didn't have high hopes. That Presto Ballet thing was terrible and I figured a break from Metal Church early on couldn't have been that good either. But shit I was wrong...sorta.

It's not thrash, but geez it has more balls than Presto had. The opening track Shake The Pain (while still not metal) is closer than some bands got and the vocalist, some guy named Ron Lowd, has a gravely, hard voice which seems to have some metal ability.

There's no doubt that Hall Alfame (is a stupid name) isn't thrash and it's not pretending to be but damn it is a lot more listenable than Presto and the song with Mike on backing vocals (Country Angel) is a ballad, think along the lines what November Rain was for a normally hard rocking GNR, but Mike's vocals are still excellent and hugely melodic.

He's got a knack for picking great names :)
The whole thing is available (in parts) on YT and I do think the majority of the album is listenable in the same way that GNR, Skid Row, etc are listenable. It's definitely not something I would buy but if someone had told me it was a Kurdt side project I would not have believed them because it's listenable!

There are some sites that claim it was a country band, but I don't think it's that far removed. Apparently they toured with ZZ Top so maybe it fits a little into the blues category. Either way I'm still really shocked that on a rest from a metal band Kurdt hit back with that first song, the Sesame Street theme song would have surprised me less.
