I'm glad somebody else said it before I did
Tracks like Immigrant Song and Dazed and Confused could be considered Proto-Metal. The first true metal band though is Black Sabbath.

The 80's was the best decade metal ever had. Heavy metal continued to thrive and grow (Maiden, Dio, etc.), Death metal was invented (Death, Morbid Angel, etc.) thrash metal was created (Slayer, Metallica, Kreator, etc.) and Black metal was born (Bathory, Mercyful Fate, etc.). In terms of quality and creativity the 80's are the best decade metal has ever had.

WRONG. Zeppelin isn't metal, and there were a few other metal bands around besides Sabbath.
Told you I didn't know much, but in my defense, Zeppelin helped create metal.

WRONG. Iron Maiden's debut came out in 1980. But you are correct in the fact that did help metal. Duh =P
Oops.

Yay. You were right!
Thank you!

WRONG. Metal has always been underground in one for or another. Most people just relate Metal dying to all of the Glam bands blowing all of their cash and becoming nobodies after 1990. Some of the best music ever made was around the years 90-93.
I am teh resident dumbass.

And I'm proud of the title.
