Ok, with all these threads about pirated plugins recently, and also threads where people get the SHIT ripped out of them for using pirated plugs, I figured I'd start a poll and hope the anonymity of it would invite people to be honest. I've never been one to rip on people for using pirated plugs cuz I've definitely been there, and while I don't advocate it, I think often the people doing the ripping are being really hypocritical and trying to justify their own insecurities about using illegal stuff by condemning others (or are just super-bitter because they spent all that money on software just to obey their consciences ;))

I'm gonna come right out and say that all my plugins are free or paid for (as is Reaper), but I have some VSTi's that I haven't paid for, cuz I'm such a fucking synth n00b that I really am using 'em on a "try before you buy" basis; once I figure out what I like (I'm diggin' Arturia MiniMoog and the Korg Legacy Collection, for example), I'll definitely buy 'em (and also once I have money ;)). And I semi-justify it by saying it's only for writing my own music, I don't ever record anybody else and certainly don't make any money.

So be honest people, it's an anonymous poll!

I'm kind of legit ahaha. I paid for my DAW, the original DFH, Superior 2, and Recabinet. KeFIR & Boogex are free. But my EQs..

And I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that it seems totally ridiculous to expect people to stop using pirated software just by appealing to their consciences or senses of responsibility; if companies really wanna stop pirating, there just have to be stricter laws against it, simple as that - trying to get people to do something by "guilting" them is asking for something for nothing; there has to be an incentive (or consequences) IMO.

If the pirates outweigh the legit people (which it will) it might make this forum look like were just a bunch of dirty robbin' pirating bastards to some people.

Hey, I just want the facts (ma'am :D). And I'm not supporting piracy, though you guys are right, I can really see it getting ugly - so anyone who wants to debate, please read the following thread first, your point has probably already been made by someone else!

I used to be a cracked soft user without any remorses. Now I'm getting rid of all the pirated soft I've got, starting from DAW...

I bought Recabinet, POD Farm plug, now I use Reaper, free plugs... Still gonna buy some more soft that can't be replaced with freeware/cheap.

The truth is now I feel much better, but still not 100% legit :( (blame monies )

I am surprised that so many people have pirated stuff, but at the same time I am not really all that surprised either.

Like I said in the other thread, a ton of friends at school are completely non-legit. They rave about having all the Reason Re-Fills, etc. and all the Logic Loops. It can get frustrating hearing about it because this is our profession and stealing things to do a job that you are passionate about seems really strange to me. But whatever floats their boat!

Full functioning demos ftw.

I have actually found pretty good free VST alternatives for many Waves plugins. Any suggestions for the rest?

- C1/Renessaince comp = Bazillion different compressors
- C4 = GVST GMulti (missing one band tho)
- Q10/Renessaince EQ = Electri-Q (posihfopit edition)
- IR-1 = SIR
- L1 = George Wong W1
- DeEsser = ?
- PAZ Analyzer = Voxengo SPAN
- Q-Clone = ?
- Renessaince Vox/Axx = ?
- Renessaince Bass/MaxxBass = ?
- Renessaince Reverb/Trueverb = Ambience / Glaceverb
- Supertap = ?
- Tune LT = GVST Gsnap

That's what I was saying in my second post, though - you can't expect a lot of people (including some of them, I'd imagine) to ever stop unless you give them some concrete reason to, cuz trying to guilt people often just means nothing to them!

Awesome, very useful, thanks!!!

I highly recommend the http://www.jeroenbreebaart.com/audio_vst.htm
ones, specially the compressor.

Wow thanks for the link Dan loads of cool free stuff on there! Hopefully alongside the poll we can all chip in and help each other out of the muddy pit that is...PIRATED PLUGINS!! Grrrr! :)

im 100% legit here, but feel like the minority haha

Ed, I admire you for that, but I have to ask - correct me if I'm wrong, but you have an 8-core Mac Pro, a MOTU 896, a Mackie Onyx 800r, like 3 Marshall cabs, a Krank, a 6505, some Marshall Power Amp, Logic 8, and I assume enough mics to make having 16 mic preamps necessary - and you're 20. One question: how?
