There has been one certain thing that has been on my mind for quite some time now, And it has had me fairly concerned.

What I am actually talking about, Is that I am worried that Opeth's older tracks will begin to become even more absent from their setlist's in the future gigs from them to come.

At this present time, We class albums such as ''Orchid, ''Morningrise'', ''My Arms, Your Hearse'' and ''Still Life'' as their older material. And we barely get many tracks from those albums added into the setlist's as it is. But, Later down the track as time progresses and they have released a couple more albums. I worry that we will begin to notice that tracks from those earlier albums are going to be completely absent from the setlist's at Opeth's gigs.

What are your opinions on this subject?

Tours are to support their newest album release...therefore, they try to include these new songs to promote their album, opeth songs are longer than iron maiden's songs, so, if you add it up, they just can't fit EVERYTHING we want to hear, you should've been around when they were touring for their older songs, GG....I mean they might do like a one time concert somewhere (prolly europe) and include a shit ton of songs...but not a tour night after night...i mean, i'm not mikael akerfeldt (unfortunetly), so he can do watever the fuck he wants along with the other guys, so cry more please...

i think of their older material as morningrise and orchid...and i think that the longer they play, the longer their setlists might become....that seems to happen with older bands. plus, if they do the 3984938493 tours per album, i'm sure they will play some older material in their somewhere.

I actually think they can play whatever they want and it will still sound awesome no matter what album it comes from because they are very talented musicians and every album has it's individual feeling. That's all Roger

The problem with a band like Opeth, is they have so many good songs, that so many people like...and most are quite long. Ideally, if Opeth were headlining a big concert, say an hour and a half to 2 hour set...thats about 10 songs on average i guess...give or take. Not to mention as someone stated above, they have to play one or two of those at least from the newest album theyre promoting, as well as songs to keep the flow and dynamic of the show changing...such as songs like credence, benighted, face of melinda, windowpane, etc...after that, you have about 5 or 6 songs left in the set, and opeth now has 7 albums worth of material...soon to be 8 by the time theyre on tour again...so it seems almost impossible for them to play everything, especially when they like to change up the set lists for every tour in order to keep things interesting for themselves and the fans. quite a dilemma isnt it.

^ i'd be perfectly happy with 2 new tunes, and 1 song from the other 7 albums. that would entail variety. but as said before, they are shying from live orchid/MR material :\

Ive seen them play songs from both of those albums on several occasions...

Advent, Forest Of October, To Bid You Farewell, etc

not to mention those who have seen them play more than that in europe or elsewhere.

obviously theyre in the minority of the setlist, but theyre often there.

i've seen them play advent and to bid as well, but no orchid material.
i never said opeth HASN'T played the older tunes, but as of late, like on the last tour (lamentations), there was none played. and hopefully the next tour will contain a track from both.

if im not mistaken, the lack of older material on the lamentations tour was due to record label restrictions, and them not being able to play songs from non-music for nations albums.

nope
...they still played april etherial, the moor, and demon of the fall

the restriction of which you speak applies to the dvd release. even then they PLAYED demon, but it wasn't put onto the dvd..unfortunately.

Actually, the fact that pre-Blackwater Park material was not going to be released on the DVD (regardless of whether or not it was played) was publicized before the gig was played. That's why everyone was so happy that they played Demon Of The Fall.

I actually found it kind of weird that they had a tour for Lamentations. I find it more sensible to tour an album, have one of the shows filmed, and release it. But hey, Opeth did things differently, it was cool, and I got to see them. Great.
