Tips for screaming/growling

im starting a death metal band, and really.. opeth is what made me even dream of starting a band or well.. learning to play guitar,bass, and drums, but im having a real hard time with the vocals, and i know there are a ton of ppl on here with awesome bands, and i was wondering if you all had any tips on screaming tech. and preserving your voice..
