Tips on creating grim vocals. (Part 2)

^Ah thanks man that helped a lot. Usually the way I learn things is just by listening so that was perfect. Do you think you could do a putfile of you singing...anything? And then maybe explaining some of the more prominent techniques you use? You're a huge help, thanks a bunch :)

Hes greek, Yannis Koutselinis (Γιάννης Κουτσελίνης) hes a pretty cool guy and of course a fucking awsome vocalist.

Ok here is a quick clip of Turbo Lover by Judas Priest up to the first chorus. Now the main thing with your voice is that you need to understand there are two main areas. The chest voice and head voice (there is also falsetto and whistle voice too but don't worry about that for now). The chest voice is where you feel most of the resonance in your chest and your vocal cords are stretching, head voice is where the resonance is felt in your head as you move up. This is after your cords can no longer stretch any further and must zip together like zipper. This point at which the zipping must occur is known as a register break or passagio. Now with this song I did, although I am a bit sick it is still pretty good. Most of it at the beginning stays pretty low so you don't have to use your diaphragm too much for support but as it raises in a pitch a bit you have to expand your ribs and stomach with air and push down a bit just like you would with growls and now focus on a big ball inside representing the resonance as it moves up your body. Focusing on this ball of resonance can help to overcome cracking at your break (Usually around the high e string of a guitar for males) and also eliminating tension. If you feel tension when singing, you are doing it wrong. You will need to use energy but there should be no tension. Another thing I do is to kinda think of singing as a yawn but not actually yawning. Think about this sensation and your soft pallete will rise a bit, this is important to letting the sound ring more and not sounding nasal. With the higher notes in this recording it was important to hit them with a very powerful tone so i had to support with my diaphragm alot, the notes are in that middle-high area that is probably the hardest to hit.

It's a bit hard for me to just sing something and give tips guys, so how bout you try and record something where you are struggling and I try to assist you with your problems. I hope this helped a bit.
