Hello Tommy, I am a vocalist, or at least trying to be, and I just wanted to know if you have had any formal training? If you suggest formal training? Do you have any particular warmups you do before singing? and if you have any tips and/or pointers to an aspiring vocalist; such as how to develop falsetto and vibrato and things of that nature.

Thanks

A good way to get some good practice is to join a choir. There you'll get a lot of good tips about warm-up exercises, proper breathing technique, belly support, etc. There are a few differences between singing solo and in a part in a choir, but hopefully you get to try your wings in that department too, as many choirs use solo parts in their songs.

Now I too want to know if Tommy have any formal voice training! :)
I notice some loud inhaling in a few places on MF (in the beginning of the 2'nd verse in Paradise, for instance), wonder if they where totally intentional, 'cause they really stand out in the mix somehow... bugs me in a way. Apart from that, your voice is just fantastic.

Just recently discovered you and have ordered MF on cdon.com (which I can recommend to you all)

The heavy breathing and gaspimg for air is something I would almost call one of Tommy's trademarks. I don't know to what degree he does it intentionally or not but even though I reacted somewhat negatively to it initially I thinks it adds an "in your face"-vibe that makes the vocals touch you closer and feel less "over produced/pitch-shifted/fake" as many vocals sound today.

We certainly leave them there on purpose.
Tommy has a lot of the Coverdale/Lande-esque "mmmmmmh" -type wailings and those are low volume and require this mixing. I like it though :-)

Frankly speaking when I read your interview on which you considered Tommy as best vocalist ever known I was doubting you overestimated him.
I must admit Mercy Fall was an incredible demonstration about his unique talent, recent live acts were proving that: chapeau :notworthy HE'S AN INCREDIBLE SINGER!
