Totally underrated guitarists

After having read The Dirt im amazed anyone would say any member of Motley Crue, let alone Nikki Sixx, was an intelligent person. The only person that came out of that book with even some semblance of intelligence is Mick Mars, and unfortunately thats because he was suffering a chronic bone disease for years which made him have to work out what meant the most to him.

Being stuck in the timewarp you are, you dont realise that most of the world do not look to Nikki Sixx for his insightful, genius like lyrics. He writes great songs, thats it.

I dont have any learning problems, if anyone here is like a child its you Troops with your ridiculous idolising of fallen stars who were drug fucked. Lets go through the very smart Nikki Sixxs life.

* Cheats on his wife with the female drummer in his band
* Does Heroin in MASSIVE amounts
* Dies of a heroin overdose
* Keeps doing Heroin the next day after the overdose
* Abuses alcohol to put it mildly
* After getting clean for Dr. Feelgood, starts Heroin AGAIN and Bob Rock refuses to work on their album
* Masa Ito takes responsibility for them in Japan, Nikki ends up arrested, embarrassing Masa and when the police go to talk to him at the station, the first thing he says is "If my balls were on your chin where would my dick be?" or something similair

Nikki Sixx is an idiot.

Oh and lets not forget ditching a massive national tour with Kiss for your new band simply because you dont want to open for Poison.

I love it when things go left field from a simple understanding. There's no place like MD.

I reckon the fundamental misunderstanding happened here:

Dream Theater is thinking man's metal.
Slayer is not.

Motley Crue is so dumb they couldnt even qualify as thinking, and that doesnt stop them rocking like a bastard.
All Spawn was saying is just because a band doesn't make you think (and hence a thinking mans band) doesn't stop them from rocking like bastards.

He was talking about the music, not the people in the band.

When did I EVER say that his lyrics were insightful and genious and that people looked for that in them? Never. I SAID THE OPPOSITE. I said Nikki Sixx is smart because he wrote what people wanted to hear which was "dumb" party lyrics. They may come across as being dumb, but they were very planned imo.

And then I suggest you have a listen to "Motley Crue" the album if you wanna hear some intelligent social commentaries because he does have it in him.

You might call Nikki Sixx dumb if you want because you don't agree with how he lived his life - but he's married to a more beautiful & awesome chick than I think most of us will ever even meet, he is swimming in money, he's had a long successful career, and most of all, even if as I said you don't agree with how he lived his life - he can look back on it and has experienced a hell of a lot and had alot of fun along the way as well.

So I don't think you can sit there and put him down for it, because he might be smarter than you think. He just didn't do things the conventional way. You think you're so much more intelligent for keeping away from all the excesses he indulged in, but when you're his age you might be sitting on the internet alone still living with your parents and look back on your life and say "Where did it go? I've done nothing..."

Nikki went for what he wanted and he made it happen, and he knew how to make it happen... and now he can look back on his life and be happy that he's lived it to the full and done everything he wanted to do. Maybe you're not as smart as him, because you haven't figured out how to get what you want in life yet... and that's the most important thing there is to figure out.

Nikki Sixx got lucky Troops. Anybody else would have been dead 30 times over. He was lucky, not smart. Same with Ozzy.

Yeah of course luck had alot to do with it. But I'm not necessarily talking about the fact that he is still alive either. I'm talking about what he has done with his life. He wanted to be a rock star and he made it. He went out there and put everything on the line, and his band became the biggest hard rock band of the '80s.

My point is - your idea of "smart" is far too narrowminded. As if being smart just means following all the rules and getting a steady job and knowing how to spell and use proper grammar and things like that.

You only have one life and I think you should try to do with it what you really want to do, and you may have to work outside of that regular system to do it. Motley Crue knew how to do it, they did it, and had enormous success. Maybe you should try exiting your "safe zone" for once and take a few risks. Ask out a girl, try to start a band, go out to clubs, socialise... because dude otherwise when you look back in 10 years time you're gonna think "Where did my best years go? I didn't enjoy them at all".

I know this stuff may seem totally irrelevant but its actually the main point I'm trying ot make, but finding it hard to put it clearly into words. Basically I just think that what you have to do with your life is gather as many great memories & experiences as you can because thats all life ends up being - a series of memories of what you've done.

I think Nikki realised that, and I don't think you have. And you will one day and you'll have lots of regrets. Therefore Nikki is smarter because the decisions he made led him to a more fulfilled life.

Life deals you the cards, you have to be realistic about how you deal with them. Nikki didnt realise anything, he wanted to get laid and being ain a band was the way to do it, and it went from there.

You might be right. And guess what? IT WORKED. He got laid and is married to a hot Baywatch chick who absolutely adores him, despite the fact that he has repeatedly cheated on her even. Not saying that's right because it isn't, but I'm saying being in a band to get laid worked for him didn't it?

Don't criticise somebody for how they've lived their life just because they had the courage to do what you didn't.

Of course some of his decisions he made were bad, and the whole drug thing was a bad path to go down. But its just natural that whenever you make risky decisions, some of them are gonna blow up in your face. He might have some regrets and bad memories and experiences from that - but he has a million times more great memories & experiences of playing in front of mega crowds, having platinum records and his videos being played non-stop on MTV, having lots of money, all the women he wants, a great marriage & kids now, and its all resulted in him having artistic freedom now to do what he wants and have people answer to him instead of him answering to other people...

And if you ask me, I'd rather put up with a few bad experiences from risky decisions to get all those rewards than just sit around in my comfort zone and not take any risks because then you never know what might have been and will end up regretting not doing anything with your life.

nice contradiction.

He obviously realised that being in a band was a good way to get laid.

Not me. Mainly because that sort of life doesn't appeal to me. People have different value systems; just because someone made it in a band doesn't make them someone to look up to. In fact, the things mentioned in this thread make me respect Nikki less than I already did. I'm not a big follower of Motley Crue, and I haven't read the book, so some of this is new to me.
