Yup... downloaded them... you were wanting to know wether he used anything but harmonic minor... right??

In the song CHILDREN OF BODOM, he doesn't use a harmonic minor at all i beleive (don't quote me tho, i haven't looked at the score/tab), 90% of it is just plain minor, and the 'eastern' bits that he does sound to me like a diminished scale, or maybe augmented at some point... yeah... the 'neonclassical' bits, like his sweeping seems to be dimished, as far as i can tell.. it actually seems pretty simple in terms of scales and chord progressions, the rhythm is actually a bit like old In FLames at times, but that's a given since it's melodic deathmetal.

I've only heard the live version of Towards Dead End... funny song, it's like crazy surfing tunes... again, no harmonic minor, just plain minor scale, with a few diminished runs chucked in for effect... there's a few of the melodic parts that sound like they could be modal, but it might just be the rhythm section/chords changing underneath a minor scale, giving it that appearance... The bridge is cool, the really dark sounding bit in the middle... the keyboard riff might be harmonic, but then again it might just be the progression making it sound that way...

Bed of Razors... Another minor tune like the others... the first melody is just a minor, but then he lowers the first note by a semitone on the second time it is played, then back again... i can't think exactly what that would make it at the moment, but i'm certain it's not harmonic...

They seem pretty simple in terms of the scales they use... 98% natural minor/aeolian, with diminished fillers here and there.

so does that mean you dont like it becuase its 'pretty simple'? becuase i think its fucking awesome. so what if he only uses the minor scale, he uses it well. alexi is one of my top 3 living guitarists. he writes the keyboard parts too.

What the hell? I just said it was fairly simple stuff in terms of scales... he's a fucking awesome guitarist... I like the band...
