We all know metal is great, and often people will travel far and wide to see their favorite artists. Myself, I live in Alberta, Canada, so I get to look forward too a 3000+ KM roadtrip to Indiana to meet a firend, and then to Georgia for progpower. It'll suck, but I think I may enjoy it, since I'm only 17, and this will be my first real trip anywhere, aswell as my first metal concert. Sad I can't attend the pre-parties after such a long trip, but hey, can't win 'em all. Anyways, I'd be curious to know of any others who are travelling a great distance to hear all that delicious metal.

I travel 12 hours from Pennsylvania with a stopover after 8 hours in Charlotte NC. The trip is hell, pure and simple. There is vast stretch of hills in the north and just trees and roadsigns further south. I am hoping to be flying this year because I can't take it anymore. Of course, if I were 17 like you (and not 35), it would be a cool thing to do! I'm anxious to hear your opinion when you get home!

Coming from New Mexico.

Two years ago, I flew to Dallas *1.5 hour flight* and then drove to Georgia with a friend. Took us two days to get there.......drove it all in one day on the way back. :yuk: Was about a 16 hour day.

Now I always fly. Only thing is....the airline I like to take makes me go west to Phoenix, sit there for an hour or so, then takes me east to Atlanta. And on the way home.....I have to fly right over my city to Phoenix, sit there for an hour or so, then it's an .50 minute flight home. :err:

But it gets me there! And at the end of the day...that's all that matters!

I'll be flying to the show from Boston. I hate having to drive 20 minutes to get to a friend's house, I can't imagine driving hours to get to Atlanta!

Good for you...that 20 minutes out of your life must suck!

Those of us that drive 300-400 miles a day making a living really feel your pain...

Rock on!

Last year we left at about 7 am Thursday morning from Baltimore Maryland, and was in Atlanta by 6:30 that evening. So around 12 hours, including 2 gas stops (one including lunch) and driving through that terrible storm. I was surprised at how short the trip was. We drove to Fl in 2003 for the Savatage Criss Oliva tribute and although a much farther length than Atlanta, took almost twice as long. Weather makes a huge difference.

Yeah, but a TR00 metalhead would drive it. :tickled: :tickled: :tickled: :tickled:

"What are you doing for September?"
"Going to ProgPower.....and back."

With no traffic, it's almost exactly twelve minutes for me. Eleven to the Fairfield, may it rest in peace. The record for shortest commute to PP, however, probably goes to former sponsor Jim Raggi, who lived within walking distance in Midtown. :dopey:

We are driving up from Tampa. About 7 1/2 hours. Easy road trip for me. I can do 8 hours of driving without blinking an eye. I've driven straight through to chicago and northern minnesota from here so Atlanta is pretty easy. I look at it this way, it's only like 7-8 CDs to listen to on the up to PP. I actually kind of enjoy it!

Why anyway would choose driving over flying, given the current gas prices, is beyond me. You'll just about break even, cost-wise.

I'll be flying in from North Carolina, by the way. And it will cost me about $15 more than if I were to drive. Easy choice.

Well there is two of us, so that would take two tickets. Then no car in Atlanta. I like to be able to go somewhere if I want to. It will be about $100 in gas. It sucks, but it still is cheaper. Plus I hate to fly, and by the time I fugure out the time it isn't all that much different. Drive to airport 45 minutes, Wait 60 minutes at least, Flight another 75 minutes or so, wait for baggage and take train to hotel another 60 minutes or so. Plus getting a ride to the airport here and everything else I just prefer to drive it.

Flying the two hours from Chicago. I'd never consider driving. Fly in, jump on Marta, get off, walk two blocks to the Grenada (or whatever hotel you're stayin at since they're all right near the station). Besides, last year we met some people on the flight down, and more than once we've ridden on Marta with one of the bands.
