Travelling for Progpower

Driving from Raleigh NC. Take about 6 hours. Could not imagine flying from here as it only takes us about $85.00 in gas round trip. Certainly paid off last year, only had to drive trough a hurricane, or was that a tropical storm....

I'm from Monterrey, Mexico, i'll be flying 2:45 hrs, Monterrey-Atlanta, nonstops, 2000 miles, ($420 usd roundtrip) I'll arrive 10:45AM Sept. 15th, if there aren't some hurricane.

I'll meet a metal brother from California in Harstfield, and we will ready to Preparty !!!!!

Flying from Cleveland area.

But NOTHING beats Neil G. riding his bike down from Chicago, for ProgPower IV. That dude will live on in fame for his insanity. :)

Likely driving from Grand Rapids, MI... 14-16 hours 800+ miles... I've done it twice and I still have mixed emotions about the experience. The first year I didn't drive at all but the ride was very uncomfortable and we weren't prepared. The second time I made the drive was last year and it went much better! I drove about 1/4 of the way there and 3/4 of the way back. We go straight, only stopping for gas, food, and the occassional nap. Last year the weather really slowed us down. It took about 18 hours to get there.

One thing I really like about the trip is there are very few highway changes and the majority of the trip is spent on one real nice highway - I-75 South. It's a beautiful drive especially in the fall! It goes through so many major cities which makes for a fun trip also. Going through the Smokey Mountains in Kentucky is breathtaking! I plan the whole trip around being able to go through the Smokies just after dawn. If any of you drivers from the north can do it, I recommend planning your trip to include some of I-75 South! Amazing!

The key to a successful roadtrip is preparation and Preparation H. :) Make sure you have enough food, drinks, a cooler, paper plates and plastic silverware, napkins/paper towel (essential!), small pillows and blankets, munchies that aren't junk food (don't want anyone ralphing in a car that you're stuck in for 10 hours!) and any kind of emergency or medical things, like pain medicine, bandages, peroxide, spare tire, air pressure gauge, contact solution, etc...
I may have become a road warrior as of late, but I still need my creature-comforts:)

Well there is two of us, so that would take two tickets. Then no car in Atlanta. I like to be able to go somewhere if I want to. It will be about $100 in gas. It sucks, but it still is cheaper. Plus I hate to fly, and by the time I fugure out the time it isn't all that much different. Drive to airport 45 minutes, Wait 60 minutes at least, Flight another 75 minutes or so, wait for baggage and take train to hotel another 60 minutes or so. Plus getting a ride to the airport here and everything else I just prefer to drive it.

O.k. 60 min. at the airport- Have a few beers.
75 min. flight - Have a few beers.
wait for baggage - go to airport bar and have a few beers
by the time you hit the Marta and get to the hotel room you be ready to have a few more beers.
Sounds alot better than driving to me!

I'm Flying Down from Vermont Noway in hell I would Drive ... the drive down wouldnt be so bad but the drive back would prolly make me insane! Just as long as I dont get lost at the airport in Jersey and miss the first band again I will be happy

I once drove from Minneapolis, MN to Hartford, CT ALONE in a car with a non-working stereo. That took me 25 hours straight. Well, not straight. I slept for 15 minutes at 4 different times...

That was NOT fun.

Dude, when I was 4, we drove from Seattle to Orlando with my infant brother. And I get carsick. :P You couldn't pay me to drive more than about 6 hours at once. You guys who're driving all have more something than I do!

Sad I can't attend the pre-parties after such a long trip, but hey, can't win 'em all.
Fear not, the real parties take place back at the hotels on Thursday, Firday and Saturday nights.

I'm flying in from beautiful New Jersey. It's about an 1.5 - 2.0 hour flight.

Coming from New Mexico.

Two years ago, I flew to Dallas *1.5 hour flight* and then drove to Georgia with a friend. Took us two days to get there.......drove it all in one day on the way back. :yuk: Was about a 16 hour day.

Now I always fly. Only thing is....the airline I like to take makes me go west to Phoenix, sit there for an hour or so, then takes me east to Atlanta. And on the way home.....I have to fly right over my city to Phoenix, sit there for an hour or so, then it's an .50 minute flight home. :err:

But it gets me there! And at the end of the day...that's all that matters!

tell me about it, I will be glad when I get done with my training assignment here in Albuquerque and I go back to Arizona for good as I love the more direct and cheaper flights than what you get most of time out of Albuquerque. :ill:

I have taken the easy route of flying to Atlanta the last 2 years. I got extremely lucky flying in on Friday, the day after the hurricane, as I didn't go thru the crazy flights that some did last year.

We'll be flying in from Chicago. We've drove every other year, forget that drive anymore, I've seen it enough!

Its only an 1 hour 20 minute flight from O'hare to Heartsfield. I did it last sunday much to my chagrine, then I had to fly the long flight to SF from Atlanta. Bad scheduling on my part oh well c'est la vie.

I'll be flying in from Chicago, same as the last 2 years.. Next year, I am planning on riding the Motorcycle...On the plane it's 2 hours.

I'll be coming from Chicago, and I am planning on doing it by motorcycle. Taking the whole week off and the Monday after as well to allow for two full days travel each way. I've been doing 'cycle trips to the Knoxville area for the last couple years for the Honda rally in June, but I'm going to miss it this time so ProgPower in September will be my m'cycle cruise destination this year. :loco:

Agree with the other post about southbound I-75 and traveling through the Smokies...it's a must. If ya got time, make sure you ride "the Dragon" at Deal's Gap just south of Knoxville...318 curves in 11 miles (www.tailofthedragon.com). :hypno:

It warms my heart to that I'm not alone in my enourmous trek to see the concert. I'd also be curious to know if there are any fellow canadians making the trip.

I'll be flying from Las Vegas. I'm lucky on air fares, since LV is a big tourist hub, lots of cheap flights available to and from here. As for driving, other than gas, you'll have a blast. Just bring your 100 favorite CD's, watch yer speed, and don't pick up any hitchhikers... Meeting all the other people at the show who've travelled from places all over the world is half the fun of the whole experience. My first trip to ProgPower was 3 years ago, and I made friends there that I still talk to today. With one of them, we've actually have a 4 year tradition going now, having travelled to festivals in Atlanta, Cleveland, and even Germany. My advice to you is to take it all in. When it's all said and done, you'll see it's much more than just a great concert. It's a cool memory, and hopefully cool new friends that'll last a lifetime!
